I tried him in small groups, and he's ok, but unless they take out a high-value target like a unit of Artillery, he's probably just going to die too easily to be worth it. Some armies, like Chaos, and now Space Wolves, just laugh at little Ork units like that. And mechanized Eldar don't really care either. Against those forces, it's good to have a substantial force to be a real threat and cause your opponent to throw a lot of shooting your way. That's my opinion at least.

I had my kommando unit at 12-15 with burnas, but I am trying to fit a nobz squad into my current build. Do you think Snikrot works okay with only 4 buddies?

Snikrot is stupid good. The best answer for Guard that Orks have other than the KFF.

He just shows up and is all like, "Hey IG, I know you just put your tanks here, and I'ma let you finish, but these knives are some of the greatest ever."

You make some good points.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I am currently planning on taking my Boyz to the next tshft. I keep getting pissed off trying to use the anti-fluffy chaos codex and I have a lot of well-painted Orks rarin' to go. Right now I'm painting some more Lootas and finishing up Snikrot, in addtion to painting some Scourged Tzeentch marines.

I really think Marines require better generalship to use effectively. Orks are fairly straightforward in most cases, and units of shoota boyz with rokkits are one of the most flexible units in the game. They can take out armor if needed, excel at shooting infantry, they melee well, and they are fairly resilient, especially with a KFF nearby. Plus, in 5th ed, 4+ saves are given out like candy, and it doesn't take too much to put half your squad in cover and get that tasty 4+ save on 6 point boyz.

I eshcew most specialist units as they are...well...specialized. I like units that have a variety of roles and can adapt to my opponent's list on the fly. Shoota boyz, lootas, lobbas, kans, shooty battlewagon; all do that in spades, and then I just add speed units like trukks and buggies and stormboyz.

I very rarely lose against Marines with my Orks, and only if they are being used by a superb general, mostly because their saves just don't hold up to all that firepower. The few Marine lists that I find that give me fits have lots of units that require my attention, and force me to use my big sledgehammer units to quash little units. Like a 40 point razorback taking the shooting from a 245 point squad of boyz...

Anyhoo...

Marines are flexible and durable. They shoot well and do fairly well in assaults. I think they are an army designed to be easy for beginners to play, and for vets to slaughter with.

The Ork codex has more specialist units and that 6+ save is a bitch. Orks need cover more than marines, who can hang out in the open more safely.

The Ork book is still strong, fun, and flexible, and one of my favorite codexes. It has a few flaws (like nerfed zzap guns and KMB, and bad looted wagons for example) but you can make a lot of different kinds of builds that are fluffy and play well.

Really? SMs more forgiving? In what ways? Maybe deployment...

I do agree there are more viable builds with SMs, usually centered around a particular special character (Vulkan, Pedro, Marneus, Shrike...).

TLOS is generally a good idea but I don't like how forests were changed. I also don't think that shooting 10 guys behind a wall when you can see one leg or arm makes sense, that's not very True LOS now is it?

I find Space Marines are usually more forgiving than Orks and have a lot more viable builds than Chaos.
