Even if it does not create a common experience, it would create a common narrative. One that players could discuss either over the internet or the local shop. Otherwise we are left with so many different missions with different points marks. Also GW could give a mission pack and tell organizers pick 4 of the 12 missions and one of the organizers own creation. That would still give tournaments some flexibility at the same time players that did want to travel not play the same missions over and over.

Unless the same people are running the events, even common rules and scenarios won't generate common experience. And let's consider going to 5 tournaments to play the same missions each time - is that a quality experience for the players? I know I don't want that.<br>There is no even; that's a fantasy. It is hard enough for the players at a single event to all have fair and equitable experiences - expecting that 100 different events would provide similar experiences just because they had the same scenarios and the same FAQ/rules does not strike me as a realistic possibilty.

Balanced or not the point is that everyone would be "even" because everyone would be playing the same experience. Bad or good it would be a unified system that would be more fair then random experiences from across North America. I would rather play the best across one system then win because half my opponents had subpar experiences playing in Comp or otherwise just bad tournaments.

And I disagree. GW missions are a lot less balanced and tested than the missions I make, and other TOs could say the same, I'm sure. Scoring systems are arbitrary, and who cares what the scoring system that qualifies people is? If you would rather play a heavy battle points tournament than anything els and the finals are pure battle points, your chances of winning are better if half the people who are there got there from 75% soft score tournaments. There are certainly plenty of chances to get to the finals on the strength of your play instead of your painting.

I agree with part of your sentiment, I think GW should at the very least should of supplied the missions and scoring system for these events. That way everyone knows what to expect as they progress to Vegas.

There is no more 40k metagame anymore, just an amalgamation of local tourny scenes with their own house rules, that culminates in one grand cluster fuck in Vegas where the player who best guesses what the judges will allow will win.

Heh, I so love player judged comp. I can walk to the table and tell you what my comp score is going to be 90% of the time.<br><br>"Is your opponent young and thinking he's going to demolish you with his almost-painted netlist?" Please give yourself a zero on comp after you get through tabling him on turn 3.
