Tournament Circuit: Da Boyz GT Results

Nov 8, 2011

Late last month (Oct 21-23) one of the last large Comp Events was held in Rodchester, NY. After last year’s  Da Boyz event it was assumed that Comp would be gone, so when it was announced again some folks were caught off guard. Still this did not stop many of the best players from across the country from attending. The Da Boyz GT ended with 76 players. With Comp representing 25% of the total points it was possible with good sportsmanship, painting, and a undeafeated record that any list could win the event.

Funny enough that is exactly what happened with Nick Rose (Darkwynn) of Leaf Blower fame took Best Overall with Black Templars! He had to beat Greg Sparks, Wyatt Trainia, Shaun Kemp, Eric Hobbin, Kyle Oman, and David Light to achieve his victory. One can always counter his victories by pointing out that he won with a zero comp list and faced “subpar” lists along the way. If you look past the Comp issue one thing though is intriguing; he won with Black Templars which begs the question was playing them alone comp? Well more on that for another post…

Nick Rose’s 1850 Black Templar List looked something like this….

I love that post that complained about the event. The bad grammar and hyperbole made it much less credible. I was particularly amused that he thought the judge was clearly against him and wanted him to lose, when the judge was right: all shooting happens simultaneously and you have to declare your targets before splitting fire.

  3. Nick’s list actually had perfect comp. Just goes to show how easy it is to use and abuse comp! lol
