BoK Reviews: White Dwarf Issue #112

White Dwarf Issue #112: The Stardrakes Unleashed

White Dwarf reviews operate differently than other Blood of Kittens Reviews. The goal with these reviews is to place a value for each issue. The rating system is one to four stars, each star represents $1 in value, to a max of four dollars. The review values are also Warhammer 40k based; Age of Sigmar dedicated issues will still be reviewed, but valued for Warhammer 40k players. It means you could see many low valued issues, with a general Games Workshop hobbyist actually valuing them more. Keep this in mind when deciding if a particular White Dwarf Issue is good for you.

Contents: New Releases

Did you ask for a bland Stormcast Eternal on a poorly executed Dragon? I know I didn’t, but someone at GW corporate sure did. Anyway, the Stardrake is set to be released this week for Age of Sigmar. I could go into the many details why this dragons is one of the worse looking models GW has recently produced, but the $140 should be enough of a deterrent. Black Library has two releases for us this week with the Eye of Terra short story compilation and a Sigmar audio drama no one will buy. Forge World has a great release with the Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Legions book. It is an easy one-stop book to find all the 13 legions that took part in the Horus Heresy. White Dwarf is also looking for player submissions and suggestions; mine would be more mini games and original content only found in White Dwarf.

Contents: Paint Splatter

Here you get to learn how to paint a model you will never desire to have nothing special, but a good blue and green scale alternative paints scheme.

What is GW saying?

Released March 19th 2016

White Dwarf 112 descends like a bolt from the Heavens, and with it the Stardrake! These gigantic creatures of celestial power, the descendants of Dracothion, are the latest addition to Sigmar’s Stormhosts, and now the mightiest of his servants ride to war atop them. We’ve got a first look in New Releases, full rules and Paint Splatter, as well as a special feature on the Extremis Chambers from which they hail. On top of that, we’ve got a look at the stunning conversion and painting work of Maxime Pastourel in ’Eavy Metal, a Deathwatch Parade Ground and still yet more in The Week in White Dwarf.

Contents: The War Eternal

Here is something about the Extremis Chambers which continues to add layers on to the Age of Sigmar fluff that is getting more and more incomprehension with each new release.

Contents: ‘Eavy Metal

My oh, oh my, the two models here are something really special. The first one is the amazing Rogue Trader craft created by Maxime Pastourel, it is really a speechless inducing model, you just have to see it for yourself.

Contents: Parade Ground

This version of Parade Ground takes time to show more love for the Deathwatch Overkill Space Marine models. The increasingly talented White Dwarf staff shows their best in this great spread. Here is my favorite pick…

Contents: Warscroll

Here you will find the various rules for the different Stardrake options.

Contents: The Week In…

More Sigmar… more useless filler… can we care any less? At least we get some pretty extra ‘Eavy Metal models to look at.

Next Issue Hint: The Forces of Order Unite Against the Gorechosen!

Final Verdict

Without some amazing art Issue #112 would be maybe the worst White Dwarf of the year. The one Sigmar model release is supposed to be amazing, but is a total fail making for the easiest no buy from GW in a long time.
