General Warlord Traits: 

  • Artisan of War: Add 1 to the Damage of a Warlord weapon. Cannot be a Relic of Baal.
  • Gift of Foresight: 6+ Ignore wounds 5+ if Warlord has the Black Rage ability always re-rolling 1s
  • Speed of the Primarch: Warlord Fights first having charged or not.
  • Soulwarden: You can attempt to Deny the Witch with your Warlord, if they already can, you can try again.
  • Heroic Bearing: Friendly Blood Angels units within 6? of your Warlord automatically pass morale checks.
  • Selfless Valour: Your Warlord can heroically intervene from 6? instead of 3?.


  • Death Visions of Sanguinius 1CP: Use when creating your army. Captains, Chaplains, or Lieutenants gain the Death Company keyword for the battle
  • Strike of the Archangels 2CP: A Blood Angel Terminator unit when setup on the battlefield can re-roll failed hit rolls unit the start of your next turn.
  • Upon Wings of Fire 1CP: Use in the movement phase before moving a Blood Angel Jump Pack unit. Remove that unit and set it up at the end of your movement phase anywhere on the battlefield more than 9″ away from any enemy models.
  • Red Rampage 1CP : +1d3 attacks to a character charging.
  • Forlorn Fury 2CP: Used before the first Battle Round but before the game begins, a unit of Death Company Infantry may move and advance as if it were the Movement phase.
  • Behold the Golden Host 1 CP: Used after a Blood Angels unit with a Death Mask is set up on the battlefield, until the start of your next turn the range of their Death Mask ability is increased to 12?
  • Descent of Angels 2CP: Used in the Charge phase for a Blood Angels Jump Pack unit that has been set up on the battlefield that turn. They roll 3D6 for their charge instead of 2D6.
  • Vengeance for Sanguinius 1CP: Used in the Fight phase when one of your units fights. For each hit roll of a 6+, you generate one additional attack. If fighting against Black Legion units, you generate additional attacks on a 4+.

Army Wide Abilities: 

  • Red Thirst: Units with this ability who charge or perform an Heroic Intervention may add 1 to its wound rolls in the Fight phase.
  • Black rage : +1 attack when charge, 6+ FNP


  • The Veritas Vitae: Regain a Command Point every time you use a Stratagem on 5+
  • Standard of Sacrifice: Ancient Model only. Infantry and Bike units within 6″ of the bearer Ignore wounds on a 5+ units with the Black Rage ability are not affected.
  • The Hammer of Baal: Replaces a Thunder Hammer. Has the same stats but with no -1 to hit.
  • The Angel’s Wings: Model with a Jump Pack only. You can re-roll failed charge rolls for this model and the enemy may not fire Overwatch at them.
  • Gallian’s Staff: Replaces a model’s Force Stave. Gives the bearer a +1 to psychic checks when casting Smite.
  • Archangel’s Shard: Replaces a model’s Power Sword or Master-crafted Power Sword. It has normal Power Weapon stats, but if fighting a Monster goes up to D3 damage and if fighting a Daemon Monster, goes up to a whopping D6 damage.

Psychic Powers: 

  • Wings of Sanguinius WC5: Gain the Fly rule and move up to 12″ as if it was the Movement phase and re-roll any failed charge rolls.
  • Quickening WC7: You can add 3 to advance and charge rolls you make for the psyker and make an additional D3 attacks with them in the Fight phase until the start of the next psychic phase
  • Unleash Rage WC6: Select a Blood Angels unit within 12? of the psyker. The gain a bonus attack until the start of your next psychic phase.
  • Shield of Sangunius WC6: Choose a Blood Angels unit within 12?, until the begenning of your next psychic phase, that unit has a 5++.
  • Blood Boil WC6: Select a visible enemy unit within 6? of the psyker and roll 2d6. If the total exceeds the highest toughness characteristic in the target unit, they suffer D3 mortal wounds. It you double their Toughness, you deal 3 Mortal Wounds.
  • The Blood Lance WC6: Select a visible enemy model within 12? and draw a line between them and the psyker. Roll a D6 for each model the centre of the line passes over. For each roll of a 5+ that model’s unit suffers a Mortal Wound.

Sons of Sanguinius, your time is here. Codex: Blood Angels is now available to pre-order, and it’s the start of a new era for the scions of Baal.

The 77 datasheets in the new codex cover all your existing units, from the versatile Tactical Squad to the brutal Furioso Dreadnought – and a whole lot more besides. After the events of The Devastation of Baal, the Blood Angels and their Successor Chapters (of which you’ll find colour schemes and heraldry for eight in the codex) have been reinforced with the full range of Primaris Space Marines, so you can add Intercessors, Aggressors, the Repulsor, and the rest, to your army, all in a lovely red. But that’s not all – the Blood Angels armoury now includes the Stormtalon and Stormhawk flyers too, as well as Cataphractii and Tartaros Terminator armour, giving you loads more options for your air support and elite warriors.

It’s not all about the datasheets though. Like each of the new codexes, Codex: Blood Angels brings you a wealth of options for customising your force and playing style. The 6 new Warlord Traits and 6 Relics of Baal allow you to create your own unique characters to lead your army into battle, imbued with powers that evoke the spirit of the Chapter. And speaking of powers, there are six psychic ones in the expanded Sanguinary discipline, making your Librarians, Primaris Librarians and Librarian Dreadnoughts distinct from the psykers of other Chapters.

Meanwhile, 6 Tactical Objectives give you new, thematic ways to gain victory points in your Maelstrom of War games, while 25 Stratagems allow you access to powerful in-game abilities that can drastically change the tide of battle in your favour – and that reflect the way the Blood Angels wage war in the 41st Millennium. Speaking of which, there is, of course, a ton of background lore in the book, updated to bring the Chapter into the Dark Imperium, alongside epic artwork, battle photography and uniform guides to help you organise and detail your models.

That’s the codex – but what else is on offer for the Blood Angels? First up is a set of datacards, containing a full Tactical Objectives deck, the Sanguinary psychic powers and all 25 Blood Angels Stratagems (plus the three from the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook) in handy portable form. There’s also a fantastic Blood Angels Dice set containing twenty dice, each one featuring blood drops in place of the usual pips, with a skull for the 1, and the Blood Angels winged teardrop in place of the 6. Twelve of the dice are red with black icons, four are in Death Company black with red, and the remaining four are gold and red, reflecting the colours of the Sanguinary Guard.

There are models to go with the new codex too. The Blood Angels Primaris Upgrades set contains 21 components, including 9 shoulder pads, 3 heads, 2 weapons arms and 7 accessories to customize your Primaris Space Marines and turn them into unique Blood Angels heroes. You can also get these accessories packaged with Primaris squads in a trio of boxed sets: Blood Angels Primaris Intercessors, Blood Angels Primaris Hellblaster sand Blood Angels Primaris Aggressors.

Finally, there is a unique new character model, Blood Angels Lieutenant Tolmeron. This detailed model shows how Primaris Space Marines can look with Chapter-specific styling, and contains 15 components, including alternative heads, hands and pistol holster.

The new Blood Angels codex is full of new Stratagems, psychic powers and ways to build your army, as well as a huge range of units new and old to add to your forces.

Firstly, while Primaris units were available to the Blood Angels before, this codex officially confirms their place and allows them to take full advantage of the Blood Angels abilities, Stratagems and relics.

Lots of people have asked us on Facebook about the Primaris Space Marines and “The Flaw”, the endless hunger for blood known as the Red Thirst, and the Black Rage, a state where a Blood Angel is overcome with visions of Sanguinius dying and falls into a berserker fury. The Primaris Marines are – at least, so far – immune to the Black Rage, but not the Red Thirst. However, they seem able to channel their fury more effectively, leading to fewer unfortunate “accidents”…

On the tabletop, this means your Primaris units will be able to take advantage of +1 to wound on the charge, just like the rest of your army. This is going to be particularly nasty on units like Inceptors and Reivers, who already excel in close combat – making them even more effective.

Another change to take advantage of is the introduction of Cataphractii and Tartaros pattern Terminator armour. If you’ve not used these different armour types before, they offer some unique benefits to your Space Marines, from a widened range of equipment to better saving throws.

Cataphractii armour is particularly great for Blood Angels armies. Usually, when equipping your Terminators for assault, you’d have to choose between the greater durability offered by a storm shield and thunder hammer versus the infantry-shredding fury of paired lightning claws. Cataphractii armour has a mighty 4+ save (at the cost of some mobility) before you equip anything else, allowing them to combine both offensive and defensive prowess.

Meanwhile, Tartaros pattern armour is the fastest kind of Terminator armour. The greater mobility permitted by this armour is represented by an extra inch of movement, while these suits can also be equipped with some weapons from the Age of Darkness, like an armour-melting plasma blaster.

It’s not just for your elites – if you want to make for a particularly durable leader for your army, the Captain in Cataphractii armour is a great option, sporting a mighty 3+ invulnerable save! Combine this with the Speed of the Primarch Warlord Trait, and you’ll be able to go toe-to-toe with some of the deadliest combatants in the 41st Millennium with ease.

The Stormhawk Interceptor, Stormtalon Gunship, Hunter and Stalker are now available to Blood Angels players as well. The Blood Angels have long been known for their mastery of the skies, but outside of Forge World, all they had to secure their airspace was the Stormraven Gunship, a powerful option, but one that necessitated spending a lot of points. There’s now a much wider range of aircraft and anti-air vehicles available to you, making building your ideal Blood Angels lists much easier.

The Blood Angels are among the most distinct of the Space Marine Chapters, and their new codex reflects this with a vast suite of new rules, units, Stratagems and more designed to reflect the fast-paced, aggressive style of war favoured by the sons of Sanguinius.

Firstly, Blood Angels are fittingly blessed with a melee-focused army wide special rule, the Red Thirst:

The Red Thirst gives all Blood Angels units +1 to wound when they charge, are charged or make a Heroic Intervention. With the new wound roll chart, this makes getting 2+ to wound that much easier, as well as helping your smaller units damage even your enemies’ toughest monsters and vehicles with ease. Just imagine a unit of Reivers dropping in with this! All Blood Angels successors use the Red Thirst and other Blood Angels rules too – as if Gabriel Seth needed to get even deadlier…

The Blood Angels codex is also absolutely packed with new units. As you’d expect, Blood Angels now have access to the entire Primaris Space Marines arsenal, but what you might not know is that this codex also broadens the Blood Angels range of traditional Space Marines weapons and units.

You’ll now be able to escort your flyers into battle alongside the Stormhawk Interceptor, transport scouts into the heart of battle aboard Land Speeder Storms, or unleash the might of ancient technologies from the Horus Heresy, like the Contemptor Dreadnought as well as Cataphractii and Tartaros pattern Terminators.

As you’d expect, there are loads of Stratagems to use with your Blood Angels army. These have been designed to open up new and thematic ways to structure and use your army. Death Visions of Sanguinius, for instance, lets you give one Captain, Lieutenant or Chaplain the dubious blessings of the Black Rage:

Strike of the Archangels is great for gunning down squads of massed infantry, and is especially deadly if you make the charge on the turn you arrive.

Upon Wings of Fire is a great way to grab an objective at the last minute, pull an at-risk squad out of combat or get a particularly deadly unit into position for a devastating charge.

There are new psychic powers, too. You may remember Wings of Sanguinius from the previous edition. This power is back and just as dangerous as it was before when used with the Librarian Dreadnought.

Indeed, Librarian Dreadnoughts, and the rest of your characters, are now eligible for many powerful Warlord Traits and Relics. Artisan of War is a superb way to build deadly characters, and combined with a Primaris Captain can give you an auto bolt rifle that does 3 damage a shot! Gift of Foresight, on the other hand, provides some extra durability:

For Relics, you’ll be able to choose between lethal, master-crafted weapons of the Chapter and more tactical options. We love the Veritas Vitae, providing you with a great way to maximise your Command Points, while the Standard of Sacrifice combined with the Sanguinary Ancient to create a fantastic lynchpin for the rest of your forces.

Codex: Blood Angels brings the scions of Baal into the new era of Warhammer 40,000 in full. This is one of the most exciting codexes in the post-Gathering Storm galaxy, featuring a wealth of new lore and a huge volume of new units, too. Inside, you’ll find how the Blood Angels are recovering – and even thriving – after their world was almost annihilated by Hive Fleet Leviathan, and how the latest wave of Primaris reinforcements are being accepted by the rest of the Chapter.

As for new rules, there’s all the awesome stuff you know and love from the rest of this edition’s codexes – Stratagems, Warlord Traits, Psychic Powers and more – as well as some special extras. You’ll now be able to clad the Archangels – the legendary, Terminator-armoured first company of the Blood Angels – in Cataphractii and Tartaros armour, diversifying the range of tactical options available to you. If you prefer aerial warfare, this codex sees the Blood Angels gain access to the popular Stormhawk Interceptor and well as the Stormtalon Gunship.

The new codex will also see the Blood Angels able to add a range of Primaris units to their army. To help, there’s a series of kits on the way, each featuring a unique Blood Angels upgrade frame containing weapons, shoulder pads and heads designed to make your squads fit with the rest of your Blood Angels collection. This frame will be available separately, too!

Finally, the just-revealed Lieutenant Tolmeron will be available to pre-order alongside the codex, making for the perfect leader for the rest of your Primaris Space Marine forces.
