Why is GW Monkeying Around With the Past?

I have stood idly by for too long after the announcement of a certain new model that you may see pictured here from the new Grey Knights line.  In the spirit of avoiding an international incident, I haven’t said anything until now, because I needed to do my homework to find out what was going on.  I’m glad I did, because I think I narrowly avoided making a complete ass out of myself (which in and of itself is nothing new, but I like to dodge bullets with ninja like dexterity now and again).

Today’s rant will, of course, be concerned with the abomination that is the new Jokaero Weaponsmith.  Ah ha, but there is that mistake that I damn near made- new!  It sure as shit isn’t a new model, but I’ll touch on that in detail later. (more…)

100% Baseless Speculation

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around why GW didn’t release a Hydra Flak Tank option either in the kit with or at the same time as the Manticore kit.  Yes, I know the redesigned Manticore isn’t inline with the previous FW one which would essentially allow swapping of the missiles for autocannons, but that is neither here nor there- and yes I still think the new Manticore looks like ass.  Just now, while going over the new FW newsletter and deciding whether or not to finally buy FW hydras at adepticon  the reason for not releasing the Hydra yet just struck me.

It’s become widely accepted that GW will have a new “flyer” supplement coming out this summer.  This, in and of itself, is boner inducing for me as I’ve been wanting to put together some model planes again for a while now.  I also seem to recall that the release will be backed up with 13 or so new model kits.  It’s pretty much a given that 2 of those will be Dark Eldar craft (would also make a fair amount of sense for those to double as Eldar kits as well), the Chunderhawk (aka the storm raven) would also seem likely to come out around this time (unless we see it with an earlier BA wave or the GKs).  So this leaves us with just about one kit for every race.  Orks will probably get a fighta bomba, tau will get something sleek, etc etc, but what do IG need.  We’ve already got a flyer that’s been released.  So barring something new and unexpected (or marauder bombers, lightnings, or thunderbolts), isn’t it likely that the Hydra flak tank would be a logical complementary release for the new expansion.

Super Ridiculous Fun Times With Forge World

I am conflicted about this:

If you’ve been keeping up with the Forge World Newsletters this month, you’ll know that this is the forthcoming Malcador Infernus tank. If you haven’t been keeping up, surprise, there’s a new tank called the Malcador Infernus coming out next year and that’s what it looks like.

Now don’t get me wrong, I like tanks and immolation as much as the next guy but something just isn’t jiving for me with this new tank that I can’t quite put my finger on. The past Malcador tanks have been pretty groovy looking, except for the one with all of the heavy bolters on it that looks like a toaster- seriously that thing was the Honda Element ™ of tanks. Part of what’s killing me with the Infernus is the trailer- not only would putting a tank brimming with volatile liquids in a tiny, poorly armored vessel be a terrible idea for a front line tank, but those wheels just don’t seem to fit the aesthetic of the model. I get that they’re consistent with the Death Korps models, but those wheels just don’t look right to me.

Again, and I can’t stress this enough, fire is amazing. My inner Beavis really wants me to love this tank, but that cannon is goofy as all get out. There’s big and then there’s that thing. It’s seriously so phallic that I almost find it disturbing….almost.
