Friday Night Internet Fight: 6th ed up the Wazoo

So here’s what happened- turns out it was Thursday and I didn’t even know it and forgot to write my normal “Gaming on a Budget” post for the blog I still care about writing on.  So then I open my inbox and see a link to some serious shenanigans over on 3++ sent to me by Artemi.  Given that I missed my normal post and had nothing better to do, I was all like ‘fuck it, I’ll write a fuckin’ FNIF, but this time I’m going to fucking swear a lot or at least as much as normal, since people really seem to take you more seriously when you cuss.’ It didn’t hurt that many of the All Stars of FNIF show up on this as well.

This Just in – Finecast Wishlisting Now Major News Item

Been a while, no?  Well after a host of computer issues and personal issues and just simply not giving a fuck, I’ve come back to wax rantosophical about a topic that has just this second become near and dear to my heart- rumors of the Finecast experiment.  I’m sure you’ve seen it already, but some wishlisting chump has decided to stir up a whole hornet’s nest of full hornets of stupidity to bring stings of idiocy to you, your family, your loved ones, your friends, your pets, and even your mortal enemies.  You’ve seen the rumor already, I’m sure, but here it is in all it’s glory copied from some other stupid blogs.  Nobody has actual given a specific source to link back to the original poster, TywinLannister, or even bothered to mention which den of stupid forum this even came from.  So all I can tell you is that TywinLannister is responsible for this bullshit, which is about as impactful as saying that I heard this guy crazy Larry say that I won’t be able to have natural gas pumped into my home anymore due to the ongoing conflict between reptilians and greys over interstellar shipping tariff disputes…  but I digress.  Here’s the bogus rumor in its entirety:

My Empire Fantasy Wish List

For both of you readers that give a shit about WFB and the Empire, let’s do some brainstorming about what may be in the pipe for the Empire.  It’s pretty probable that we’ll be getting a new book in the not too distant future, right?  Of course it is.

I haven’t really seen any concrete rumors with a date or anything yet, but I think we all know it’s coming.  Now, based on the precedent set since the newer Skaven book, I think it’s pretty safe to say that we’re going to get a greatly expanded choice of large units and maybe even some monstrous cavalry.  Think about it.  The Skaven got the Hellpit Abomination and characters that can ride rat ogres and various types of litters and giant ratties.  Orcs and Goblins got the Arachnarok.  Tomb Kings are getting that big fucking sphinx thing and some skeletons riding big fucking snakes.

I’m not sure what monstrous cavalry might look like for the Empire, or if they would even be getting any, but I can tell you for damn sure that we need the War Wagon back for our jumbo kit (although a big ass Imperial Dragon could be pretty swank as well).  For those of you who, like me, need a wayback machine to go back to when you started playing, you might remember the War Wagon.  I remember seeing it at the comic store I used to go to when I was picking up the latest Marvel abortion or whatever part of the arc DC was currently shitting out breaking Batman or killing off Superman.  This was, actually just before I started gaming (other than Battletech and maybe Hero Quest, if that counts).  I remember looking at that kit and just itching to play the game though.  Here’s to hoping we get it back, it’s been gone for too long and the Empire needs some new old toys.  Hell, it’d even be inline with GW’s tendency to resurrect old nostalgia items.

So what do you guys want to see in the new book?

100% Baseless Speculation

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around why GW didn’t release a Hydra Flak Tank option either in the kit with or at the same time as the Manticore kit.  Yes, I know the redesigned Manticore isn’t inline with the previous FW one which would essentially allow swapping of the missiles for autocannons, but that is neither here nor there- and yes I still think the new Manticore looks like ass.  Just now, while going over the new FW newsletter and deciding whether or not to finally buy FW hydras at adepticon  the reason for not releasing the Hydra yet just struck me.

It’s become widely accepted that GW will have a new “flyer” supplement coming out this summer.  This, in and of itself, is boner inducing for me as I’ve been wanting to put together some model planes again for a while now.  I also seem to recall that the release will be backed up with 13 or so new model kits.  It’s pretty much a given that 2 of those will be Dark Eldar craft (would also make a fair amount of sense for those to double as Eldar kits as well), the Chunderhawk (aka the storm raven) would also seem likely to come out around this time (unless we see it with an earlier BA wave or the GKs).  So this leaves us with just about one kit for every race.  Orks will probably get a fighta bomba, tau will get something sleek, etc etc, but what do IG need.  We’ve already got a flyer that’s been released.  So barring something new and unexpected (or marauder bombers, lightnings, or thunderbolts), isn’t it likely that the Hydra flak tank would be a logical complementary release for the new expansion.

Let me know what you think or if there are some new rumor threads I should be checking out.  For now I’m off to start my final full semester of MBA candidacy.
