So I went up to the Throne of Skulls last weekend and for fun took my Tau. I’m preparing mentally for Dark Angels, so I thought it would likely be that it was the last tournament that I took them for under their 4th Edition book. I ended up going 3-1-1 and won Skulltaker (caused the most Victory Point Damage on all opponents). I killed 2/3 or more of every opponent I played I lost to a great Tyranid player (best I’ve seen in years) that I couldn’t clear off the objectives, and I tied the Necron Flyer player that won DuelCon. Nice guy, with a solid army, it was good to play the airplane build that is so feared.

The list is below, it’s 1500 pts, which is a little less then I like to play. Let me explain why this list was so good.

First, I never lost First Blood. When my opponent looks accross the table these are his options: Hammerhead with a 2-3+ cover save (terrain dependant), Crisis suits are generally out of LOS, the Bastion (Armor 14), or the Dark Reaper lead by my commander with a 2+ save and two shield drones (two more 2+ saves) that are on the Bastion with a Cover Save of 4+. The broadsides are inside of it, and the firewarriors and kroot are either in reserve, or in terrain. The Farseer is… wherever he can do the most good.

Now, it isn’t a lot of models, but EVERY OPPONENT I had was hiding their stuff behind cover and out of LOS by round 3. No one ever did more then 250 pts worth of damage to the army. It’s only real flaw that I found was if someone had far more scoring units (and by more I mean… like 10-12 scoring units…. stupid Termagaunts!). I won kill points/victory points hands down every game. All the vehicles are destroyed, then you use the divination powers rolled by the farseer to buff the army, and/or make the dark reaper have Ignore Cover and Prescience and just remove entire units, or you get Misfortune and do the same thing. The Black Sun filters running around the army also helped as well, as I can attach the commander to the Dark Reaper and they also gain Nightvision. he also uses his multi-tracker and target locker to fire his missiles and the lascannon on the bastion at whatever he needs.

A lot of great rules questions got answered, especially regarding bastions, which we have been using a lot lately.
