I’ve made some fairly serious hobby progress lately. I’ll be taking some better photos and putting those up. Work got on top of me this week so my regular Monday post had to wait. The Riptide was finished, along with all of the options for him. I now have some vespid on the table. I’ve taken an oath to work on nothing but Tau and Dark Eldar throughout 2015 or until they are done.

I broke down everything I need to do for my Tau and it’s as follows (all of this is bought, just needs painting):

2 Broadsides and 4/Missile Drones – One railguns, one missiles. I bought some 3rd party railguns to make an ‘old school’ style with the new models

3 Devilfish/Hammerheads – I own 3 unpainted, so I might as well knock it out. This will be awhile, I don’t really need to use them.

Vespid – A full squad I have had in metal since the 4th ed codex was released. They are on my desk now and should be done in the next week or so.

1 new Pathfinder unit – The new models with 3 ion rifles. I also have enough models to kick my old squad up to 10 and have another 3 railrifles. This will be about 15 models when I get around to them.

New Fortifications plus 12 firewarriors that are modeled as Gue’vessa’la troopers.

Bunker with 12 firewarriors

Update crisis suits that are about 50% painted. They need some TLC since they got almost finished in 2008.

Update old forgeworld Crisis suits – They are ok painted, but I can fix a few things that have broken on them over the years and freshen the models up.

3 Forgeworld Hazard suits

Remaining Gun Drones (12) and shield drones (6) and markerdrones (2). These will likely be interspersed while I paint the above things over the year.

30 kroot that are not assembled

Barracuda

Tau Bastion from Hive City Games that should be coming in a few weeks.

I will also be updating my Dark Eldar, but that will depend on the book. I am not the collector of DE the way I am about the Tau. I build a list, and work toward that list, unlike tau where I just own everything.

I also had a chance to go to a local tournament and really enjoyed playing my Tau there. Some units that I thought would be poor were great, and some I thought would be great were poor. The hammerhead with the railgun was a complete disappointment in the new game. The Skyray was a beast. The riptide got a B. Shadowsun + crisis fusion were a monster unit. Broadsides were monsters. Mixed marlights in the army was the way to go. I always seemed to have enough laying around to make it work. The Fortifications were great and worth it. I will continue to get those for this army.

I’ve also gotten my DE out of storage and will likely be making a shift to playing those, and shelving the Tau for storage (but painting them). I think I will likely enjoy playing the DE a lot, they are such a wickedly vicious little army.
