Let us tackle this in three parts. The first part is a break down of the tournament, including lists of the 10 best overall and the 10 best generals.

Army Breakdown (77 players)

  • Codex Space Marine: 19 players
  • Codex Chaos Space Marine: 17 players
  • Imperial Guard: 9 players
  • Orks: 5 players
  • Codex Space Wolves: 4 players
  • Eldar: 4 players
  • Tyranids: 4 players
  • Dark Angels: 2 players
  • Blood Angels: 2 players
  • Black Templars: 2 players
  • Dark Eldar: 2 players
  • Tau Empire: 2 players
  • Necrons: 2 players
  • Witch Hunters: 1 player
  • Deamon Hunters: 1 player
  • Codex Deamons: 1 player

As you can see there is a lot of Space Marines. What was really shocking about the makeup of the GT was the fact that CSM were so high. I felt like I was living in some sort of 4th edition wonder land. It was good to see more IG, which made me think about tournament lag time for new armies. It will be interesting to see besides regional preferences how long till Space Wolves or Nids have a greater and better showing.

Important factoids of the 77 different armies.

58% of the armies were either IG, SM, CSM

47% of armies were either SM or CSM

61% were MEQs

26% was the percentage of Xenos armies

It is no surprise that SM have the highest representation. The shocking number is the 26% of non-human armies. My personal feeling is that GW release schedule is to blame; we went from SM to IG to SW over a year and half period that took its toll on people waiting for their army book to come along.

Here is the Top 10 overall points winners

  1. Eldar – Nathanel Williams
  2. CSM – Chase Linbo
  3. SM – Zen Zheng
  4. Eldar – Gregory Sparks
  5. Tau – Josh Dearth
  6. Dark Eldar – Kiel Skiver
  7. IG – John Cadice
  8. SM – Michael Rusca
  9. CSM – Sirus Chappell
  10. Orks – Chris Frye

Top 10 Best General

  1. Eldar – Nathanel Williams
  2. CSM – Chase Lindo
  3. SM – Zen Zheng
  4. Eldar – Gregory Sparks
  5. Tau – Josh Dearth
  6. CSM – Ben Cromwell
  7. Blood Angels – Gerry Sunada
  8. Dark Eldar – Kiel Skriver

For the second part we are going to discuss top three tables going into the final round. With the army lists and general information about contests.

The third part will be a tad bit controversial, but lets leave that for another day…

Questions for comment:

  1. What do you think about the make up of the tournament?
  2. Was the armies listed what you expected?
  3. Do you think that GW release schedule played into what armies showed up?
