So, the Void Shield Generator finally has a model!

Joy to the world!

Now, Stronghold, a very good expansion might get playtime. The model itself isn't what anyone expected and I am sure many are divided on the looks.

Personally, I like it and I imagine like all piss poor photos we won't know really anything unit we have the kit in our hands. The real lame stuff is Games Workshop deciding to make it limited to only 1,000 units, which we all know will end up being unlimited down the road.

What though makes this release very interesting is it being made in Resin. Now this isn't FineCast resin, but a hard resin.

Here is the GW blurb detailing the Void Shield Generator...

This all seems like a confluence of a few rumors coming together.

  1. Forge World is being integrated into Games Workshop.
  2. If 1. is true than the Website update is just around the corner.
  3. Finecast death might be coming to fruition

I like to think Forge World will maintain its independence, but the kit was probably made by them, and would partially explain the limited quantities. It is a good test run for the new distribution system that will have to be in place if Forge World is going to be sold on the main GW website. It also could mean GW just wanted to get something out for the Void Shield, and the plastic kit is coming down the road when the cast is ready.

As for FineCast I am sorry like I said before, I have it on good authority it won't be going anywhere, but if Forge World is getting even cozier with GW then expect more resin releases like this in the future. I am sure by mid-April with the new website launch we will know a lot more. As for now, enjoy the Void Shield Generator because at the very least we now know how big the damn thing is supposed to be!
