So, the Ork codex is out, and as usual everyone has fallen into two camps: utter disappointment or wait & see. The disappointment crowd is having a very similar response like the one held towards the new Tyranid codex. If you can remember that far back; everyone was complaining about the Nids not instantly destroying Eldar or Tau with a flick of a tentacle.
Having expectation overabundance was a sure contributor, but as it turned out Nids were neither the panacea or shit ball many thought they were.
So, now the poor Ork codex has been built up, and everyone who has been reading rumors or bought the book has had a collective Meh. After reading my copy, I really don't see where the crying is coming from. All the important things have gotten better and the bad things aren't as crappy
It is all in the little things, like cleaning up of out of date rules, things like Tankbusters and Burners getting Truckks. To awesome looking models like the new Mek Gunz and Meganobz. Instead, all I hear is complaining about Mob Rule, and no more invulnerable saves, like these people were taking +5 invulnerable saves on their Orks anyway. The why I can't take Nobz as Troops cry crowd also forgets in 7th they don't need just troops to score objectives. Sure, you can find silly things like Ghaz being a Lord of War, but then again he is not taking up a HQ slot anymore. Why does Heavy Support have so many units in it? To the disappointing trend of removing characters without models, but once again, who were taking those units in the first place to miss them so much?
People forget with every new codex, the army changes, and the changes to the Orks doesn't make them crap, but probably makes them really good. If you cannot find a way to get your Boyz in assault by turn two you are doing something terribly wrong. This Ork codex feels like real Orks, especially with the extra formations and detachments.
I just don't know what people were expecting?
Everyone wants a clear-cut home run unit it seems, devoid of any attachment to the rest of the codex. Like, for all the hate the Seer Council gets, people sure seem to secretly want the same type of unit for their own armies. I get it though, the Orks are one of the more iconic races in 40k, with many passionate fans, but most Ork players are not the hyper-competitive type, so getting all upset over what the Internet is saying is dumb. Honestly, no one is really positive what is exactly good or bad in 7th edition just yet, so to assume Orks don't have chance is, well, extra dumb.
Personally, I am already having more fun in 7th than I ever had in 6th and looking at all the different ways I can play Orks has gotten me really excited. To think in even next week we will have EVEN MORE ways to play Orks with the Ghaz Supplement! This a time to experiment, and probably buy a few more Trukk kits for those lonely Boyz needing a ride. It isn't a time to complain just because Nob bikers aren't amazing again, it is a time to breakout all those Ork units that haven't gotten much love give them a go because you will never know until you try.
