BoK Reviews: White Dwarf Issue #103

White Dwarf Issue #103: Fire, Flame, Ferocity

White Dwarf reviews operate differently than other Blood of Kittens Reviews. The goal with these reviews is to place a value for each issue. The rating system is one to four stars, each star represents $1 in value, to a max of four dollars. The review values are also Warhammer 40k based; Age of Sigmar dedicated issues will still be reviewed, but valued for Warhammer 40k players. It means you could see many low valued issues, with a general Games Workshop hobbyist actually valuing them more. Keep this in mind when deciding if a particular White Dwarf Issue is good for you.

Contents: New Releases

Like almost all the issues so far this year content bulk has been taken up with new release information. This time we have the Duardin riding Magmadroths, giant Lizard/Dragon hybrids. These models do look fantastic and have great 40k Eldar Exodite potential for anyone willing to take on the challenge. In the hands of the Sigmar Dwarves though they look a bit silly when riding them. GW also is releasing the Fyreslayer Battletome to along with the Magmadorth

In addition, we have a great product from Black Library with the Horus Heresy Cover Art collection. This looks like a great coffee table book, as it expands the novel series cover art which on any book shows only a small portion of the sweeping panoramas created. Forge World has some new transfer sheets for sale and cool Etched Brass for the Night Lords.

Contents: Hammer of Terra

These few pages like the Tyranid one last week continues the Start Collecting! series, this time with Astra Militarum. It is a waste of pages for anyone who already plays 40k, rehashing fluff and art for complete marketing purposes.

Contents: Paint Splatter

We get details on how to paint the Magmadroth and Runesmiter rider. This Paint Splatter combines recipes from previous Dwarf issues, with a good trick for painting yellow eyes and a recipe for a great looking yellow flesh.

Contents: Warscrolls

If you are an Age of Sigmar fan this is the part where the White Dwarf has value, you get all the rules for the Magmadroth Runesmiter, Runefather on Magmadroth, Auric Runeson on Magmadroth, and rules for when the Dwarves are unmounted.

Contents: The Week In

The week in weak information focuses on all fire elements that show up in the Games Workshop universe, from Fire Wizards to the new Magmadroth.

Next Issue Hint: More Orange Beards and Whole Lot of Chaos!

Final Verdict

Issue #103 keeps the steak alive with useless material for 40k players, as more Sigmar Dwarf stuff is released. At least the Salamander models are super sick! Still this is starting to get really boring even for White Dwarf standards.
