Tits for Tournaments: Las Vegas Open 2016 Top 8 Lists

Warning

Tits for Tournaments is rated factually opinionated. Expect results, army lists, and some light bitching about boring spam lists to follow.

I just got back from the Las Vegas Open 2016 and I can report it was a smashing success! They had 295 players in the 40k Championships alone, just shy of 300 goal they set. It is still a record for any Warhammer 40k tournament. The entire LVO doubled in size and with growth caused one big problem, namely Water! I know it sounds trivial, but gamers need to stay hydrated and LVO didn’t have free water stations like all the years before, instead attendees were charged $5.00 a per water bottle! This isn’t in itself a big problem, but it is when the hotel refuses to allow people to bring outside drinks or food in!

This lead to a disaster as attendees were forced to buy the overpriced water and terrible under cooked food. In Frontline Gaming’s defense this is first time they dealt with an event this large and Bally’s would have charged 15-20k for free water. It is a problem that can be fixed for future LVOs, but it was by far the biggest and really consequential complaint I heard.

As for other issues and this one will need its own post, but it had to do with the Twitch streamed Round 2 match up, where two players played a two and half hour game that only got to turn 2!!! The drama and tantrums that ensued will have to wait though, because I know you are reading this post for one thing only…lists. Before we get to them here is a helpful pdf if you want to see the how each player did at the LVO and what armies were played and did well.

LVO 2016 Preliminary Results

Now we get to the Top 8 lists from the Las Vegas Open 2016!

Alex Harrison 1st Overall LVO 2016

Sean Nayden 2nd Overall LVO 2016

Steve Sisk 3rd Overall LVO 2016

Alan Bajramovic 4th Overall LVO 2016

Alex Fennell 5th Overall LVO 2016

Brad Chester 6th Overall LVO 2016

Jon Camacho 7th Overall LVO 2016

Aaron Aleong 8th Overall LVO 2016

The final eight comprised three Eldar, two Necrons, one Deamons, one White Scars, and one Dark Angels player. Overall, Eldar dominated this Tournament as I guessed, but I was surprised Tau didn’t break into the top 8. As for the field at large, Eldar and Space Marines had about 40 players. The rest of the field was pretty evenly distributed with Tau, Necrons, Daemons, Tyranids being the next largest groups. Still, LVO had seven Grey Knight players and five Sister players, I think this is the real strength of the ITC because it brings out armies that otherwise would hide far away into events. Another noticeable trend was seeing so many imperial list or chaos list having at least one Imperial/Chaos Knight in tow.

Finally, I uploaded the last batch of the images I collected from LVO, so here is a gallery of my favorites for folks to see.
