BoK Reviews: White Dwarf Issue #107

White Dwarf Issue #106: Champions of Fenris

White Dwarf reviews operate differently than other Blood of Kittens Reviews. The goal with these reviews is to place a value for each issue. The rating system is one to four stars, each star represents $1 in value, to a max of four dollars. The review values are also Warhammer 40k based; Age of Sigmar dedicated issues will still be reviewed, but valued for Warhammer 40k players. It means you could see many low valued issues, with a general Games Workshop hobbyist actually valuing them more. Keep this in mind when deciding if a particular White Dwarf Issue is good for you.

Contents: New Releases

Space Pooches get more love with the release of a few new characters and repackage of another. The new Ulrik headlines with an amazing mono-posed model unmasked with skull in hand. The Iron Priest also gets released with an interesting, but old looking sculpt that happened to get some arm upgrades. Wolf Lord Krom makes his return from the Stormclaw boxed set from almost two years ago. Krom is dynamic model with a great pose and a cool looking frost axe. GW also releases the Start Collection set for Space Wolves it comes with Thunder Wolves, Grey Hunters, and over used Space Marine commander. It is a good deal even if you take out the Commander in the cost. Black Library has the third book from the Beast Arises series The Emperor Expects, too bad it is written by Gav Thorpe. Sigmar also sees the Grand Alliance: Death book. As for Forge World Book Six in the Horus Heresy series is finally here called Retribution with details on the chapters involved in the Shadow Wars.

Contents: The Forces of Death

This little portion gives Sigmar players details on what armies and units remain from the undead legions of Warhammer Fantasy –foreshadowing the death of the Tomb King range.

Contents: Golden Daemon

This section is dedicated to single model winner from the Golden Demons. It is a Blood Angel captain painted by Adrian Bay. Adrian gets interviewed and discusses his inspirations for painting models. It is interesting to see a painter who is obsessed with Heroes and the highly detailed Captain is a real show stopper. The wow factor is those details, with chips and amazing layering.

Contents: Paint Splatter

This week in Paint Splatter shows off how to paint both Ulrik and the Iron Priest. The Ulrik one is pretty good because the palettes used are not typical colors associated with Space Wolves, making it helpful for painting other character model.

Contents: The Sons of Russ

This is just an advertisement for the Start Collection Space Wolves set, along with every other Space Wolf model GW isn’t currently selling well.

Contents: The Rules

We get the rules for the new Iron priest, who is a lot different from the current codex version…

Contents: The Week In

The week in weak information we get some history for Ulrik along with a amazing bonus Adrian Bay Golden Daemon entree..

Next Issue Hint: Tactical Supremacy, A Xenos Coalition and Krom’s Nemesis

Final Verdict

Issue #107 gives us more Space Wolves with three character models, but not much else. We continue to see GW struggling to find content to fill the White Dwarf of late and this is another example.
