The Incredible Hulk, er.... Mountain King is finished!

For his rocks I decided to stick with the black to mimic the Hulk's hair, and just highlighted every single monotonous edge with purplse. Look at his arms - who needs that many tiny rocks growing out of their arms? That may have been the single most time-consuming thing I've ever done on a model, but I like the end result.

I had a lot of fun figuring out the Avengers. I'm not a huge fan of Thor, but blue and red seem to be his colors and I didn't feel right leaving him out. If it wasn't for the swinging welp looking like Spiderman I don't know if I would have done this, but dang if I didn't have fun doing it.

I decided to make the welps look very cartoony. The Hulk needs to look fierce, but I wanted a bit of whimsy so I went for bright colors on the little guys. I was excited when I got to Iron Man because I was finally able to use my red metallic paint from Vallejo. Spiderman was fun because his pose is perfect. I have a love/hate feeling with Wolverfine - I hate painting yellow, and I redid his scheme several times because he kept looking like the Beast from Xmen before he was dyed blue.

As for the MK himself, I'm really happy with how he turned out. My sealer seemed to have washed out some of the smooth transitions between his greens, so some areas are a bit more stark than I'd like. I'm definitely loving this preshading technique though, and I'm going to continue trying to perfect it on larger models. I'm not sure that it will work on small pieces (especially not with my current airbrush), but I guess I have to pick up a brush at some point...

I'm happy to have finally painted the Mountain King. I'm crossing my fingers for a commission to do him in studio colors because I love how Trollbloods normally look, but I can definitely cross him off the list of models I want to paint some day.

I apologize for my total failure in doing an actual work-in-progress on this guy. Working on him was at the whim of how long my back would let me sit and paint, so I was taking advantage of every painting opportunity. Despite everything he was actually really straightforward so I don't know that it would have been the most engaging WIP series anyway, but I do enjoy getting to talk about the process so I'll try to get another one in the future.

See you tomorrow!
