With 6th ed. GW introduced a lot of new stuff, ranging from Escalation to Dataslates. This post will be about one of these new ways of playing the game and more specifically I will write about a supplement. Supplements give you the opportunity to use an army’s codex in whole different way. One of these is the Iyanden Supplement, which, as anyone can imagine from its name, belongs to the Eldar codex.

It tells the fluff of the Iyanden Craftworld. For those who don’t know, the Iyanden are the Eldars that use more than any other Craftworld the spirit walkers, known as Wraithguards, Wraithblades, Wraithlords and Wraithknights. In addition, their Spiritual leaders are mostly Spiritseers.

What can someone gain from using the Iyanden Supplement?

The Supplement gives you five benefits:

  • Heroes of Iyanden: You can choose as your Warlord a Wraithlord or a Wraithknight, instead from your HQ choice.
  • Shadow Counsel: In an Iyanden army you can take up to five Spiritseers as a single HQ choice.
  • Warlord traits: it provides its own Warlord trait table

D6
Warlord traits
1
Roll a D3 to see how many re-rolls you can use in the game. Those re-rolls can be used in: to hit, to wound, Penetration and saving throw rolls.
2
Your Warlord and all friendly units within 12” have FNP (6+) SR.
3
The Warlord and his unit has the Hatred SR.
4
The Warlord gets the Spirit Mark (Codex: Eldar) SR. If the Warlord already has it, it can Spirit Mark two units, each turn.
5
The Warlord has +1 to Deny the Witch rolls.
6
The Warlord re-rolls all failed saving throws rolls until it suffers an unsaved wound.

  • Spiritseer Psychic Powers: Any Iyanden Spiritseer generates his Psychic Powers from the Rune of Battle (Codex: Eldar) table, with Voice of Twilight as a Primary power rather than Conceal/Reveal.

Voice of Twilight: Is a blessing that creates a 12” sphere around the caster. Any friendly Wraithguards, Wraithblades, Wraithlords and Wraithknights units inside the sphere gain the Battle Focus (Codex: Eldar) and Furious Charge SR.

  • Gifts of Asuryan: Last but not least, the Iyanden Supplement gives you the opportunity to exchange the  Remnants of Glory (Codex: Eldar)  with the Gifts of Asuryan items, which are:
1.       The Celestial Lance (35P): [Range 6” S8 AP2 Assault1/Melee, Lance, Impact[1], Spirit Shatter[2]]
2.        Soulshrive (30P): [Range – S3* AP2 Melee, Master-crafted, Spiritstealer[3]]
3.       The Wraithforge Stone (30P): In every movement phase nominate a Wraithlord or a Wraithknight and roll a dice. On a 3+ the nominated model gains a single W that had lost.
4.       Guardian Helm Of Xellethon (15P): The bearer always passes his Look Out, Sir if there is at least one Wraithguard or  Wraithblade in the same unit. Also the Wraithguard and Wraithblade models in the unit must accept Challenges.
5.       Spear Of Teuthlas (15): [Range 18”/- S9/User  AP-/- Assault 1/Melee, Fleshbane, Armourbane(only in C&C), Rending]

Taking into account all the above, the most suitable list I can thing about, is a fast Wraith Warriors list.

[Wolf tip1: Iyanden cannot take Eldar as allies]

+++ Iyanden (1850pts) +++
+++ 1850pt Codex:  Iyanden Supplement (Primary Detachment)) +++
Selections:
+ HQ +
    * Farseer
        Singing spear
    * Spiritseer
        * 6xSpiritseer
                        The Wraithforge Stone
+ Troops +
    * 3xWraithguard (Troops)
        * Wave Serpent
            Holo-fields, Serpent Field, scatter lasers
        * 5x Wraithguard
            5x Wraithcannon
+ Heavy Support +
    *2x Wraithknight
        Two Heavy Wraithcannons

The Supplement provides the player the opportunity to play a heavy T army with high S and low AP. Furthermore, by giving the Wave Serpents as Dedicated Transports for the Wraithguards, the lists player can reach his/her opponent in no time. This is a tough enemy, for any army, to win. Our wolves once again have to bring the fight to the enemy and not wait for them to come. The Long Fangs with Ml can be useful, but will be out in two turns.
Once again the alpha strike drop pod assault is how we can show them our teeth. They have High T so we will use meltas to blow up their vehicles and their Spirit Warriors, with the list that I suggested for a regular Eldar HW army.

[Wolf tip2: Don’t take JOTW as you need a 5/6+ to remove them from play.]

If anyone has the opportunity to play against the Iyanden I would like to hear your feedback. As always I would like to hear your opinion on this and all my previous posts, as well as suggestions for what you would like me to write about.

Next post “Tournament report part1”!!!

Until next time remember Prospero and…

VLKA FENRIKA

[1]Impact: in C&C this weapon uses the above mentioned profile only in the first round of Assault.
[2]Spirit Shatter: If in the turn you assault, the bearer kills a character or a Monstrous Creature using this weapon, place a large blast on top of the killed victim. All models under the blast, except the bearer, suffer an S equal to the T of the Victim, AP-.
[3]Spiritstealer: Add 1 Soulshrive’s S for each unsaved wound it has caused earlier in the game.
