After years of being a 'hobby butterfly', it's time to pick 2 armies and stick to them forever.
But how can a man do that?
By quite simply BUYING ALL THE THINGS!
This way, whatever happens to the army, whatever happens to the rules, I'll always be able to throw together a decent force.
It's sure beats changing armies every year, when you can update for less... or not at all if you do actually have absolutely everything.
So, you will see that I do have absolutely everything imaginable (apart from an Anvil of Doom, a Flame Cannon and some Miners) for my Dwarf Throng.
Meanwhile, here's my collection of Space Wolves. The big brown box holds 3 packs of Grey Hunters and 5 Drop Pods.
Yes, that's a MASSIVE bag of bits at the front, full of alternative heads, torsos, arms, weapons, legs and a multitude of missile launchers.
The other two bags are Forgeworld MKIV armours for my Wolf Guard. I felt that they should be 'rewarded' by their Wolf Lord with more ornate (aka: badass) armour when joining the ranks of his Wolf Guard.
And I chose the Ironclad Dreadnought as the basis for my Space Wolves Dreadnought, because I like the big, blocky, klanky look.
Dwarf Bits and Space Wolf Bits - Unite!
Dwarf axes, hammers and accessories look awesome on Space Wolves, because both armies share that Norse/Celtic vibe.
And as anyone who's ever built a Warhammer Fantasy army will tell you, you get LOADS of spare bits at the end.
So, the plan is to not only make all my Space Wolves as unique as possible, but to give them plenty of awesome weapons too.
Who knows, the Dwarfs might get some runic, wolf-headed axes, necklaces and wolf tail talismans in return?
The White Dwarf
Because I live in a small flat with my girlfriend, I don't have room to store all this stuff!
So I asked my good friend (and fellow Space Wolves player) Lee if he could look after it all for me.
We were busy stashing it all away in his spare room, when we found this fella hiding in one of the cupboards among some issues of White Dwarf going back to issue 100 and even further back than that!
Yes, this is the ORIGINAL White Dwarf model, totally untouched and unassembled.
I recall he was £5 back in the day.
Anyway, Lee said I could have him, which was very nice of him.
The Hunt For Russ is Over!
Look what else we found, deep in Lee's spare room.
Leman Russ himself, still sealed in his blister!
This is a later release of Leman Russ, because he used to come with 2 metal Fenrisian Wolves (Freki and Geri).
To put things into perspective of just how much Games Workshop has increased the scale of their miniatures over the years...
The White Dwarf model (pictured above) is the same height as Leman Russ.
Yep, Russ really is that tiny.
Unsurprisingly, Lee is keeping this model for himself.
And who can blame him?
CONCLUSION
As you can see, I have a heck of a lot to build and paint, which should keep me going for at least a year!
The plan is to find the list I wrote out of all the Dwarf units, then take all the spare bits off the sprues that I won't need, which I can then give to the Space Wolves.
Then I'll start work on the Space Wolves as the first priority.
Meanwhile, I've been practicing my 'pinning' techniques using some Infinity models.
I really don't know how I built toy soldiers for so many years without a full collection of drill bits, a hand drill, cordless drill and a set of files.
But I suppose you learn these techniques and acquire these tools as you go a long.
In the meantime, I have over 120 bases being made by Anvil Industry, which should be finished by the end of the month.
Once those arrive, I can start assembling my Space Wolves!
