Happy New Years!

So yet another year has gone by. It hasn’t been the best of years both personal and painting wise which shows when comparing the pile of painted miniatures with the mountain of unpainted. I only completed 40 miniatures this year which is kinda sad considering I got, through some great deals with a friend, a bit over 400 new ones.

I’ve been thinking a bit about what new projects to do next year but right now I can only think of four that feels actually remotely realistic:

  • Continue to paint some display pieces, hopefully more then 2013.
  • Enter some more painting competitions.
  • Flesh out my Judge Dredd collection with some more gangs.
  • Flesh out my Russians for Bolt Action.

Resolutions

And as is the custom of new years eve it’s time for some new years resolutions that won’t stick^^. I’m going to stick to the hobby related ones:

  • PAINT MORE DAMN IT!
  • Improve my painting.
  • Enter some competitions, starting with Wamped IV.

There has been some upsides to this year and not only crap. I’ve played quite a lot of games over the year and that’s a trend I tend to keep up with.

Gaming

I did end up doing some gaming between Christmas and now that’s been a lot of fun. A friend got some new board games that we have been playing.

First the new Firefly game which I really like. Sure it is a bit repetitive but still a really fun game. I hope that will release some more missions (goals) and I’m definitely looking forward to the next expansion that’s due in march if my memory serves me right. It would also would be nice with some more Captains as you didn’t get that many in the box. But everything else seemed to be plenty of and I think they will release more smaller expansions like the first one, or at least I hope so.

The thing I liked most about it probably were that while all the ships are the same, the Captains are quite different from each other and require somewhat different tactics.

The second game was Smash Up! with both of the expansions, with The Obligatory Cthulhu Set as the favorite. It was a fun and easy game, which I really liked. Definitely something I want to play some more.

I think the easiest way I can describe the game is that it is like a mix between Call of Cthulhu LCG and the Blood Bowl card/board game.

New Games?

I’ve found some board games that I would like to add to the collection next year, most of them from 2013. I haven’t read reviews of them yet but they seem to get a pretty good rating at BGG.

  • Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game
  • Android: Netrunner
  • Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia
  • Urbania
  • A Study in Emerald

Euphoria is definitely the one that sounds the most fun, I’m a big fan of dystopian films and literature so it’s more or less a must-buy game for me :)
