Hendrus Virago (my Archon) had a bit of a hard time in games on his own...
to put it short, he died - all the time - in just about every game, he was shot to pieces even when using cover, or a raider etc...
however, now he has bodyguards, which consist of 4 Incubi.
There has been a recent release of two models for the "court of the Archon", and while the models look brilliant (My favorite of those is the Medusae), their stats aren't that great.
I have used these Incubi for a while, and they seem to be very good at taking fire, dealing damage with no armor saves allowed, and generally keeping Hendrus alive... I prefer it that way...
Anyway, the part that I think makes them best for protecting a character who is risky when taking damage, due to the fact his invulnerable save is great, but it can disappear, is the fact that wound allocation is dealt to the squad, before the independant character, so therefore I get to take saves (or not in some cases) on the Incubi before risking the Archon's shadow field.
Though they are part of the kabalite half in my army, I decided to paint these shining gold, with a heavy gryphonne sepia wash, to represent both that they are an elite choice, instead of standard troops, and also because they are Hendrus Virago's personal bodyguards, not just general Incubi.
Otherwise they would have been painted in the colours of the kabalite warriors.
Let me know what you think of this colour scheme :)
