Just a little fluff I made up concerning my space wolves, the 13th Wolf Spiders. I'm just gonna get this outta the way, it's a mash up of fictions, it ain't all correct and it only makes sense in my little corner of the universe. So, rail against it if you want, but it won't do any good.
On a world light years away from holy Terra a group of the Emperors finest discover blips underground. Believing it to be a Necron tomb world, they begin to dig and hopefully uncover and destroy the creatures before they can activate. What they found astounded them. It was a tomb, but not for the Necrons. There, miles between the surface were thousands of primitive fission reactors and hundreds of stasis pods all marked the same way, a great wolf on a banner of stars. The contents were human some small, just a hair larger than a typical guardsman. Then they found "them" humans much larger than the others. About the size of a normal marine, these humans were much more familiar but yet odd at the same time. Believing them to be some sort of lost Space Wolf marines they began removing what few pods still had viable life left in them. They were none too soon, as they removed the last viable pod, the last active reactor in the chain winked out and began a catastrophic meltdown that destroyed the entire structure.
Safely on board the ship the captain, along with members of the medicae and the Adeptus Mechanicus made the decision to open one of the pods. They chose one that contained an older woman. Hair a mix between vibrant red and grey. The opening of the pod was brutal. Being a tech never before seen they tried to open the pod so they might save this human from whatever contraption they were being held in. After several unsuccessful tries an accidental button press and a little force from a power claw and the pod released a hiss of pressurized oxygen. The woman's eyes popped open and she began to breathe. Although awake, she was not fully conscious and was taken to be cared for. The "ritual of opening" was then performed 200 more times. Some to the same success as the woman, some to only the reality of death. Most of the larger humans survived and were given better care.
Several days of observation passed and the woman began to recover and she began speaking in an odd language. It had a scant resemblance to low gothic but not very close and it took several days to translate. That translation gave them the name of the woman. Natasha Kerensky. The next few days proved more interesting as the men aboard learned the truth. These humans had somehow survived 38,000 years. As more of them awoke they story started to take shape.
Natasha, as the leader of the what she called Clan Wolf had made the decision to place what remained of her forces into stasis in hopes that Clan Wolf could endure through the, what she called "the inner sphere's" destruction squads. She explained the clans doctrines and the fact that they were each warriors bred only for war, something that resonated with the marines. These people they had found were almost like the distant relatives of what the Emperor would eventually make into his chosen. Even the larger ones, she explained, had been genetically engineered to wear suits of armor that made them gods among men. Deciding that something must be done, the captain decided something very bold. Being that the world they were found on was very much like Fenris, and that the people bore the emblem of the wolf, he contacted an old friend of his within the Wolves and partitioned for their induction. Coming to the same conclusion as the captain, the wolf priest decided that if the warriors proved able they would receive the blessing of Russ. Sadly though, only the larger of them were able to be modified in the way a marine must and thus Natasha lost command of her men. She watched them preform any task set in front of them and at the end of it all, become something they never could have been before.
Being that they were so few, they were assigned alongside other newly christened Space Wolves to form a new Wolf Spider detachment. The 13th Wolf Spiders would live on albeit, unofficially, to fight behind the scenes at the beck and call of none other than the Great Wolf himself. As Natasha slowly faded she watched in amazement at what her Clan had become and her final thought was that she could now rest.
Some explanation. I LOVE Battletech, it's my favorite miniatures game period. So when I first started playing 40K and found out about the Space Wolves, I just knew that I somehow had to make a mash up of them and Clan Wolf from battletech. Flash forward 4 years and I finally find myself in a position to do exactly that. That's why you'll see the red hour glass on black (Natasha's symbol she was known as the black widow) on the knee pads and shoulder pads, and the number 13 in roman numerals on the other shoulder pad. Now, in all actuality, the Marines would have found only skeletal remains, but hey, this is fiction and by damn if you're gonna make shit up, go big. Hoped ya liked it.
IT’S SOOOOO FLUFFFYYY!!!
