Greetings fellow wargamers!  Today I have a few unusual conversions for you.  As some of you may know, WMG has been working on a studio Necron/Chaos allied army for a while.  This army is partially based on the Egyptian themed (well, mostly, in fact) but also because I LOVE aspects of both armies!  I really like Thousand Sons, in particular, but I find that as a unit they need some love from other choices as well.  Thousand Sons are great, but an army of them won't win you the game.  AP3 bolters don't do crab to terminators or the like.

To this end I really wanted to incorporate some Egyptian themed 'big' models, such as the Maulerfiend and Forgefiend.  I like the new Forgefiend kit from GW, but I LOVE the old Warsphinx kit from the Tomb Kings line.  Who doesn't?  So I thought if I could work it into the army, I definately should!  That's how both these models came about, actually.

For the first model I had the upper body of the warsphinx left over from a previous conversion.  I also had the lower body from the SoM Chimera as well.  I figured they'd be easy enough to incorporate, and a little sculpting over the joint to craft some fur and presto!  Instant leaping lion!

I was originally going to mount this model to a 60mm based and count him as a Daemon Prince, but the model is SO TALL that I just couldn't justify it in my mind that this giant model was just a daemon prince.  Besides, with how fast a maulerfiend moves (like a beast) I figured this guy was a shoe in.  If you want to count him as having magma cutters, then just say that he rends with the back legs.  For lasher tendrils, consider it a pounce where he holds you down with his front paws.  Who cares about the details!  He's made from 100% GW bits and looks great!  Skip the details and just enjoy the ride!

For this second model, the Scorponok want to be, I started with a Huge Bounty Hunters Star Wars crab droid.  From there, I mounted the arms from the maulerfiend kit and the spare tail from the warsphinx kit.  I added a few more Egyptian style bits (including the head piece over his lens), some grey stuff bits of cloth to look like scrolls or bits of burial shroud, and mounted him to a special desert themed base I constructed a while back (I was casting these for a while, but they weren't all that popular, so I gave up en em' . . . still have the mold though)
It's a little smaller than a traditional forgefiend, but not by much.  It's not really tournament okay, but I think coolness trumps rules most of the time IMHO, so while I might not take it to Adepticon, I think it might work very well at my FLGS.

So what do you think?  Am I in line with the Egyptian theme of the army, or am I drifting way off course?  Let us know what you like/hate about these models.  We aim to please, so please aim.
