Starting in the new year you are going to see a lot more Ogre content on this blog.  Especially now that the Battalion box is fully built and ready for battle!

Well, the models are built.  They’re not attached to the bases, yet.

As with most hobby-related projects lately, this build took longer than it should have, but I completed my goal of getting it done by the end of the year, which is great.  I now have three units of large Ogres ready to take on Andrew’s Wood Elves or Daemons, and whatever other armies find themselves on a nearby tabletop.

Even though it took ’a while,’ because there were only 16 models in this Battalion, it was a lot easier than any other Battalion I’ve worked on (Empire, Skaven, High Elves, Tomb Kings)!  It’s a refreshing change from the 40+ models from the other Battalions.  Most of the models I put together pretty quickly, so there are some gaps that should be filled.  I likely won’t fill them, though, as I’m looking for a tabletop-ready army, and not a close-up pretty one.  (Heh, I just realised I forgot the head of the Gnoblar on the Leadbelcher Champ!)  I want to see the army from a few feet away and be proud.  Anything closer, not necessary.  That’s why I will be using Army Painter’s Quick Shade this time around.  Well, also because I want to see if that will speed up my painting.  I doubt that it will take THAT much less time, honestly, but I’ve wanted to try it out for a while and I think the Ogres are a nice way to do so.

I’ve already played the one game with the Ogres against Andrew’s Wood Elves and they performed exceptionally well.  They are strong at range and strong in combat, and I even forgot to Stomp, so they would have been even stronger.  They lack the numbers I am used to with other armies, especially Skaven, as well as the ability to return from the dead, but their meaty bodies at 3 wounds and 3 attacks makes up for it.  I’m really stoked to get them on the table again, and with the lot of them built it’s going to happen soon.

As a bonus, Andrew picked up some new models for his Daemons army on Boxing Day, so I think both the Wood Elves and the Deamons will be my interchangeable opponents in the coming weeks.  I hope the Lizards make it onto the table as well.  And if I can convince any of the other guys to drop by with their armies, even better.

I also picked up some new Ogres on Boxing Day, including a second Battalion, a box of Mournfang (sadly, there was only one available, will have to get another in the future), and a Thundertusk/Stonehorn kit.  Added to my Battalion and Ironblaster, I will have enough for a 2000pt army very soon, including some converted character models.  As I mentioned previously, there is only one GW character model that I actually like for the Ogres, and I am not willing to pay the $30+ pricetag on him.  So I will be making my own Lords and Heroes using all the kits I’ve bought.  When those little projects begin, you can be sure you’ll see them here.

Anyway, that’s all about Ogres for now.  I should have an update on them early in the new year.

Thanks for reading.
