Marines are boring. Ultramarines have a dumb name and look like smurfs. Space Wolves have dumb hair. Blood Angels have this blood fetish and, well, you get the idea.

The one chapter I’ve always liked are the Dark Angels. They have a slight problem you see; a secret that if they had just owned up to at the start then it would be all OK now. Instead they took the wrong path and every action they take is driven to protecting this secret at all costs. They also wear impractical robes, have three different colour schemes in one army and allow some very specialized forces to be played. They’re not at all boring.

The new models all look fantastic to me. Yes, even the speeder and the plane with part of a building on it. I can’t wait to see what the codex brings. This is the army that I’ve been waiting for, the one I plan to keep on growing for a long, long time.

To this end I’ve started working on my army already. I have a rather large number of marines hanging around already, as well as some DA specifics and so I’ve started putting together what I have. Between the starter set (10 marines, 5 Terminators, 3 bikes, a librarian, commander and chaplain) I’ve also got the Ravenwing set (now called the Dark Angel one because apparently the boys in green need no help) and a bunch of Terminators and DA upgrade boxes. I also have Sammel.

My initial idea is to have two 10 man tactical squads with plasma for fluff reasons, but I have enough spare weapons to be able to swap them out with less self destructive weaponry if needed. I’ll buy a Ravenwing and Deathwing command squad, as well as Belial. That means I’ll have the option of going with all three flavours of the army from the start.

Well I think that’s probably a measured response from not even having seen the codex yet…
