Greetings fellow wargamers!
Winter isn't coming, it's here! And with winter comes my favorite type of scenery/basing . . icy snow and barren tundras! I have always loved the look of snowy terrain/bases. The blues and icy whites against the slate greys of ruined fortresses and the like sets such an ominous tone, it really gets my gaming juices flowing!
On the same token, I've always been a fan of the old piles of frozen bones you often see featured in icy dioramas or scenery pieces, such as those featured in the Space Wolves codex', as well as iconic settings like the Wampa cave on Hoth.
Having an deep seeded inner need to recreate my favorite types of scenery, I set about crafting a few sets of old/prehistoric bones and put them up for sale on ebay! Most of these bones I got out of model kits from a variety of sites. In most cases you can pick up these sorts of kits for less than $20 bucks easily enough. Then it's just a simple matter of partially assembling them and gluing them to the hardboard bases, applying texturing material to get that cold/hard/frozen ground look, applying a few shades of blue and white, and flock to taste.
In a future post, I'll go into how I specifically went about painting and applying the snow flock to the base, but for now, just enjoy the pics, and if you REALLY like them, pick them up on ebay before they're gone!
For those just tuning into this blog, my name is Caleb and I am a conversion artist for hire! If you are interested in commissioning a model, contact me at calebfilm@yahoo.com. We offer a full range of services from custom conversions, painting, terrain, consignment (for your old must get rid of models), and more!
And until then, PUT YOUR MINIS WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!
Them bones, them bones . . . are for sale! Prehistoric bone piles make great terrain!
