The thing about iBooks is that it’s like a midnight launch except you don’t have to leave the house.

Having read the book I’m now starting to think about a 500point force to start off an army with. I want it to be fluffy so that means lots of plasma.

I’m starting with greenwing as I don’t see bikes working at 500, neither do I see Deathwing fitting so after looking at the trusty old tactical squad my basic rule for low point armies kicked in (don’t buy upgrades unless they are really cool) and the following short list sort of fell out:

  • 3x 5 man tactical squad, each with one Plasma Cannon.
  • 1x 10 man tactical squad with a Plasma Cannon and Plasma Gun (possibly Combat Squadded)
  • 1x Librarian with combi-Plasma

This comes to 26 models, all in power armour and more importantly I have the models to cover them. The plasma cannons should be able to deal with most things as long as the Marines don’t melt firing them. The librarian is just a cheap HQ with some handy psychic powers, which is something I’ve always ignored as I’ve only really been playing Necrons and Dark Eldar so need to get a feel for them.

As always it’s a list to experiment with that concentrates on the core of the army (Tactical squads), and I can always modify it to have two squads of ten marines by merging the 5 man units and changing the plasma cannon for a plasma gun, which costs the same number of points for some reason.

I’m thinking the Plasma Cannons should be a good foil to the Orks in my last list as long as my opponent does the lazy/practical Ork movement thing of not spacing out a full 30 man squad to 2″ coherency. I’m sure they will still be slaughtered though.
