The arrival of my Heldrakes was a joyous occasion, but a camping trip delayed me starting work on the little buggers. I finally came to a decision about how I would build them, and went with one posed in the manor depicted on the box, and one reposed to resemble a Hell Talon. I haven't primed the normal one yet, I am going to get to it eventually, but lately I've been priming everything by brush (more even coat plus accessible in the winter and very thorough, downside is way more time consuming), so ive been putting it off. Its possible I have some army painter red spray paint lying around, so that's an option. Anyhow, the more creatively modeled 'drake is now on my painting desk, and I'm rather pleased with how its coming along...

First, we have a top down view, as you can see it mimics the profile of the Hell Talon:

The top of the model has the main shade largely complete. The trim is going to be primarily black with grey highlights, with some steel and bronze highlights and OSL (which im still working on getting better at) on the engines and holes on the bottom of the model.

The face of the model is magnetized so I can swap weapons, as a result the half that comes off is less further along.

This is a close up of the paint, I am considering throwing a glaze on it to even it out, but I'm also nervous it ill fuck up the way the model pops from a distance. I will report back after attempting it on the lower portion of the model, which hasn't received much paint yet.

That's basically it for the Drake so far, the two combined, along with my bikers will form the core of my Red Corsairs raiding party. I am currently also working on 2 min sized CSM squads:

The other Aspiring Champion, this time with a Power Maul, I haven't gotten to the rest of the paint job yet (these models are magnetized so I can give them back a lightning claw, The more optimized setup is Combi Melta/LC).

Untitled
All of the models start out primed with a mixture of Mephiston Red and Blood Red (I still have a ton of the old paints).

Models are then washed with Carroburg Crimson then Agrax Earthshade and then another wash of Crimson.

My Bikers (the bikes have been done for awhile) are nearing a state of completion.

I also got my Corsairs sorcerer converted, I didn't do much to the DV chosen I harvested, but I'm pretty happy with him, although the paint needs to be cleaned up.
