We have covered a lot of Mantic's games here on Shades Of Chaos, but we have done very little with Dreadball since the Kickstarter campaign finished. I think its time to fix this misdemeanor so here is the first of many posts for this face paced sci-fi sports game, just a little run down on what the game is for now but keep your eyes peeled for more...

Dreadball is a very fast game that gives the teams a limited amount of action points to spend each turn. This forces you to choose carefully between your players as to who gets to move and keeps the turns short. Play wont stop for scoring or half time or any other such nonsense, when a goal is scored the ball is shot out on to the pitch (at high speed) from the center line!

The game also uses cards, that you can gain by spending action points, that can be used to play dirty tricks on your opponent or to stretch your players to the limits with extra actions they would not normally be able to pull off.
The players on the pitch come in four flavors;  Strikers are fast and good at handling the ball but cant slam, Guards who are good at slamming but cant pick up the ball, Keepers are experienced Guards that can handle the ball to an extent, and finally the Jacks who can do a bit of everything but don't excel at any one thing.

The first four teams to be released where the Corporation, Marauders, Veer-myn and Forge Fathers. They are the easiest teams to get to grips with and only really differ from each other in their stat lines and the types of players they take to the pitch. Not long ago another four teams where released; the female Corporation, Robots, Z'zor and Judwan. Each of these new teams is more individual with one or more rules that make them a little more of a challenge to play such as the Judwan's pacifist special rule that makes it impossible for them to harm an opponent!
Soon we will see the next four races including the mysterious Asterians! Add to this MVP players, fouls, large based monstrosities and much more and you have one of the best sports games on the market.

If you like the look of Dreadball then watch this space as SoC will be doing a lot more content for this awesome sports game. Our local club is also planning a day long Dreadball league at the Giant's Lair in Plymouth... I think it would be rude not to take part, dont you?

See ya.
