The Corporation and Marauders are both included in the Dreadball box set. This means that almost everyone who plays the game will have these teams. So what do the most commonly owned teams in Dreadball have to offer on the pitch?
As part of the first wave of releases from Mantic these teams where kept fairly simple making them a great option for new players.
The Trontek 29ers (Humans) have access to every type of player except Keepers who can only be gained through experience. This makes them a very flexible team that can adapt to the flow of the game which ever way it may go. Humans have very average stat lines so although they may not be as strong as Forge Fathers or as slippery as Goblins they also don't exhibit any obvious weakness. The models are great and a real joy to paint. Due to their similarity to Marvel's Ironman and the recent success of the Avengers movie a lot of Human teams have been painted in the familiar red and gold color scheme.
The Greenmoon Smackers (Orx) have superior guards compared to the Human team and more of them to boot! The goblin jacks are better at stealing the ball and dodging with an impressive speed of 3+ but a low strength. Although the Orx have their strengths their obvious weakness is a total lack of strikers. The guards in this team really need to make their presence felt by knocking some heads together and creating an opening for the underachieving goblins to score.
The Orx team has some lovely sculpts including the guards who, in my opinion, are the nicest miniatures in the box set.
I have played plenty of games with both of these teams and although the flexibility of the humans is great I really enjoyed crushing skulls with the Orx! That is not to say that I ever win, even when I left my opponent with just two players on the pitch I still managed to lose when a goblin fluffed the strike on the last turn! Silly goblins...
See ya.
