In the Grim Dark Future, there is war, and blogging about said war. Also blogging about anything and everything else going on. Blogging is a thankless job most times, and while our online community is pretty awesome in general as we celebrate all things Grim Dark, hobby, and miniature related. Seldom is the curtain pulled back to shine a light behind the scenes. The people who devote themselves to the dark god's of blogging work away frantically keeping the posts flowing. So in this series we will be speaking to some of our communities most dedicated. Getting a small glimpse into the minds of our fellow bloggers, and pillars of our online world. To get this glimpse a short series of questions went out into the warp, and these are the bloggers who responded.
Today we speak with Mordian 7th from Mordian 7th Regiment
Mordian 7th runs a site that reminds me how un-productive I am. Mordian has the ability to constantly be churning out a new project with updates, and pictures. Not only does he regularly make hobby progress, but he has some really awesome work to show off. It's always great to check in with someone who you can see just loves our hobby and is constantly enjoying what he is doing. A inspiration for all of us, if you aren't following Mordian 7th what are you waiting for? Let's take a look at some of his work.

What originally got you into blogging?
I originally started getting involved in the online 40k community back in the Portent (now Warseer) forums mostly as a lurker and reader, followed by reading and very occasionally posting on a number of other forums (Bolter and Chainsword, Da Waaagh, DakkaDakka, etc) but the forum culture generally struck me as generally very harsh and confrontational which meant I didn't get too involved. I found myself drawn more to reading hobbyists blogs, as the modeling and painting aspect of the game has always held more fascination for me than the tactics and tournament play (not that there’s anything wrong with those, of course). Ever since the release of the old red “40k Compendium” I have been a huge fan of the Imperial Guard, and was especially taken by the “7th Mordion Regiment, D Company” found within. My first guard army was a point-for-point recreation of the army list outlined in the book, and over the years I've built, painted and sold three iterations of the army (I’m currently on my 4th). Though the spelling is different, the little history blurb in the book closely matches the description of the hive world of Mordia, and over time I've merged them together in my own fluff to become the Mordian 7th Regiment, D Company. I've used “Mordian7th” as my handle on forums and such for decades, so it seemed only natural then to make that the title of the blog (even though it’s not strictly all guard all the time).

How do you keep up with blogging and how much time does it take up out of your personal life?
I try to upload at a minimum one post to the blog each week, though generally I’ll squeeze in two or three. It does go in cycles matching my hobby mojo – when I’m really cranking away on a project I might throw up a post every day! Generally the actual blogging bit doesn't take up too much time, I’ll snap a few pictures, and bang out a paragraph or two in half an hour. Usually I’ll fire one off either in the evening before calling it a night and heading to bed, or early in the morning before heading out to work (assuming I’m awake and coherent at that time of the morning)…
Are there some really great blogs that inspire you or that you would like to shout out?

For sheer inspiration, I very much look up to some of the giants of the 40k painting world, Dave Taylor , James Wappel , and Eye of Error make me want to be a better painter half the time, and the other half make me despair at the meager talents that I have.
From a conversions standpoint (one of my favorite aspects of the hobby) you can’t go wrong with Rictus’s astounding plasticard work over at Recalcitrant Daze and I am constantly inspired and amazed by KrautScientist’s conversions at Eternal Hunt.
In addition I am constantly pleased to see new bloggers popping up all the time, including my friend Dave over at Ex Fide Vivo, the incredibly talented 17yearoldhobbyist, Todd Sherman at SincaiN40k and A Sent One at How to Lose at 40k just to name a few!And no discussion of 40k blogs can be complete without a shout out to Ron from From The Warp. It was a savage blow when he retired from blogging. We miss you, Ron!
If you had one tip for a newer blogger what would you tell them?
My personal advice is not to try and be all things to all people – find an aspect of the hobby that really appeals to you and focus on that. Have a plan and stick to it as well – for example, when I got started with my blog I decided that I would just focus on my own hobby output: no tactics articles, no news or rumours, etc. There are other blogs out there that do that sort of thing far better than I, and I don’t have the passion for it. Similarly, I decided that every single post I made would have at least one picture if not more – and thus far I’ve managed to stick with it!
Any final words before we wrap this thing up?
The “Most Important Rule” from 40k also applies to blogging – above all, HAVE FUN WITH IT! :)
