You may or may not know that there is an 1850 "classic" 40k event coming up in Lansing on Sunday at Evolution Games.
"Classic" is what I'll call Warhammer 40k using just the core rule book and hardback/digital codices. In short, no "expansion" books like Escalation, Planet Strike, etc. or Dataslates. I presume we'll see a lot of "classic" while we gradually figure out other formats.Anyways. I am ready.
I've been play-testing and theory-hammering out my list and I think I've got the fat trimmed.
The main tweaks involved dropping the bikes in favor of more Spawn. Spawn just work better in every aspect except shooting, obviously. Also, I added my favorite piece of wargear, the Burning Brand. What a great weapon.
The next tweak is probably the biggest: Double sorcerer. This might be huge. I evaluated my three games (I mean HEAVY playtesting! :-p) and found that the Lord on a Bike rarely did anything while my Sorcerer was a big player. Why not double the fun? I've opened up a wider variety with 6 rolls on whatever table I need. Playing an elite army (I'm looking at you Dreadknights), I can roll on Biomancy 6 times hoping for Iron Arm, Endurance and Enfeeble. Playing against low-leadership armies? Telepathy, here I come! Need cover? Roll for invisibility! Haven't lost in a while? Roll all Pyromancy!
We'll see how it plays out.
I plan on making a great tourney report with plenty of pictures for Sunday. I should have a fully painted and based army for the event, so expect the best. Below, I've attached my check sheet for each game and my actual army list.
Be warned: If you're playing in the event, this is the actual list I am playing. I would recommend that you do NOT tech against it. I imagine this isn't the winning list. IF you want to tech against it, I imagine a list you might have trouble with would be the regular meta: Tau shooting and Wave Serpents... pretty much the opposite of this list.
But if you do tech against me, well, I imagine you'll feel extra bad when MY BAD GUYS RUN WILD ON YOU!!!!
