A General cant just play one game, win, and call themselves Great. They should not just play one game, loose, and call the list they used trash. They should follow a path, a linked series of games. For at least 20 games, they should develop a core army and play with that army until they are blue in the face. Till they give it a true chance and actually get a real feel for the army itself.
The Kabal has played another two games. I changed the list after game 6 and have now played 4 games with the revamped list. And I like it. So, what have I been learning about the Dark Kin?
The gamble that is vect. So far, more often than not, I get to sieze the innitiative on my opponent. As you will see in my review of game 10, this did not happen! But… with proper deployment I was able to mitigate damage even after not going first. So its important to note, that I do not rely on the sieze! But its nice to have it when facing tau-dar, or eldar or tau of any capacity, especially when there is not a lot of LOS blocking terrain on the table.
This is a shot from the Warmasters Challenge in 2009… I have been playing Dark Eldar for some time now.
So on to the actual games!
Game 9 - Was against Matt and his Crimson Fists. Matt and I had played for game 8, and his Gryphonnes (Ultramarines) had felt the wrath of the Kabal. This time he wanted to try out a concept list… sternguard, sternguard and more sternguard. So, what happened?
His list included 30 Sternguard with Kantor. A stalker, a whirlwind and two min sized tac squads and a storm talon. I was able to sieze on him and deal some good damage turn 1. First blood was mine rather quickly when focussing on a small 5 man squad. His first turn was effective, killing quite a few of my tanks. Then the game just went south for the marines… my turn two was devastating… I used the warwalkers to outflank and help take out both the stalker and the whirlwind (huge threats to me). And his retaliation was almost non existant when he failed to do much. THe dark eldar killing machine went to town! And just kept on pressing the advantage. A victory for the dark kin.
I learned the value of the warwalkers in Hammer and Anvil Deployment, especially with Big Guns never tire… they can threaten the objective AND not get shot early in the game. Vect is a machine of death when he does not fail an invul save…
This is a shot from GamesDay 08. Eldar continue to be a great opponent (and ally!)
So. This brings me to Game 10. I played against Tim and his Tau-Dar. Dual Riptide, Wraithknight, Buffmander, Jetseer, Dires in Waveserpent, some Kroot, FW’s, Pathfinders and Eldar Jetbikes.
This was a VERY nasty long ranged, shoty list of doom! And I did NOT steal the innitiative. I had deployed far enough away to be out of range from the burstcannon tide and most of the other stuff and his first turn I must admit, I got lucky. I Only lost two tanks. This then saw me do basically nothing turn 1… and turn 2 I lost quite a few more tanks… but then from turn 3-5 I turned the game arround to basically table my opponent! This taught me a valuable lesson, to stick to my guns, focus fire on things I need killed till they die.
The MVP’s of the match once again… the warwalkers, who survived till the VERY end of the game, eliminating key targets and then battle focussing away out of LOS and what not. I think adding them into the list was key.
So… I have now played 10 games. This is the middle of the road! I can only get better from here… and Ive already started to think… what should my next journey be?
Thanks for reading!
Skari - out.
