I have recently come to a decision on my Space Marine army, after giving it a lot of thought. When I started doing my Art Scale Marines, I had every intention of doing the Ultramarines 2nd Company. I was close to completing my first squad when I decided to improve them, to match my vision of what Space Marines should look like. It was at this time that I began to doubt what Chapter I should do, as I was torn between Carcharodons, Crimson Fists and Ultramarines. I decided to do a test mini of each Chapter, and see which one I liked the most.
I went with the Carcharodons first, as I had been reading about them on the internet. The resulting test mini can be seen below. I enjoyed this mini so much that I decided the Carcharodons were the Chapter for me.
After this decision, the next step was to find some inspiration. The Badab War series I received during the holidays helped with the lore side. Of course, I am very visual, so I needed some artwork to get myself going. A quick Google search yielded some pretty cool results.
The first image is from the Deathwatch supplement Honour The Chapter. It’s another book on my list, as it has a fair amount of lore on the Carcharodons. It also looks deeper into how the individual might act and behave, something I really like about the Deathwatch books. I love the brutal feel of the first image, and it’s something I want to keep as I continue with the Carcharodons. The next two images are by Aerion the Faithful. These are both older works, and I am not sure where I found them. Something I quite like about them is the inclusion of red as a spot color. It’s a nice way to add more than different shades of grey to the models, and it’s something I’ll be adding to my Carcharodons. It’s also a nice wink to the old Space Shark scheme.
I already have 2 Tactical Squads almost finished, and I have been working on this project a lot recently. As soon as I can finish an Assault Squad, Chaplain, and get a Stormraven, I will have something close to 1000 points. But of course, this is a Space Marine army, so there are many more units I want to include. Art Scale Terminators are on the list, of course, along with Captain Tyberos.
This project will probably take me a good portion of the year to complete,as there is a lot of work involved with Art Scale marines. I hope to get at least one update every month on these guys, and get started painting soon!
Cheers,
