So its been a while since I last posted on the blog, unfortunately I have been really ill and work has been incredibly busy again so my precious free time has evaporated! But ive still managed to squeeze in some hobby over the past few weeks. I painted up my only model for the Falkirk Free For All this weekend an Avatars of War Orc Shaman. Really love this model and was fun to paint, especially since I hadn’t painted anything since November last year! The model is in a really nice pose and harks back to early edition GW Orc Models but with a modern aesthetic and scale. I’m not a big fan of the cloak on the model, was probably the dullest part to paint, kinda wish I had painted it in a more colourful way but didn’t want to go too OTT with a load of colours!

On a semi related note Mike bought some Avatars of War Dwarf Path Finders and quite rightly struggled to assembled the buggers! He asked me to look at them and I unleashed some pretty epic (24hr curing!!!) glue to finally sort them out. Lovely models but they come in far too many small parts and the plastic imo is really not upto the standard set by GW. I think the plastic resin mix combined with some sort of hardener or mould release agent is causing it to reject bonding with plastic glues and super glues. The glue I had to use in the end was an industrial structural adhesive and thinking about it a two part glue like araldite would probably be best to ensure a good bond!

I’ve also been on a bit of a converting spree and have built my new Orc Ogre BSB using Golgfag maneater as a base model, pretty simple conversion: 2mm Brass Rod and then built up a big banner using several scavenged parts from my bitz box! Pretty happy with him and love the golgfag model so that’ll be fun to use in all my games! On a side note Im really looking forward to painting and playing with my Ogres, really don’t have that much to paint since I am using some Orc models to represent Ogre models. My core 2400pt list is as follows:

Slaughtermaster

BSB

8 Ironguts

2x 3 Bulls with Extra Handweapons

2x 3 Mournfang (Goblin Wolf Chariots) (Painted)

8x Lead Belchers

Ironbaster (Just the gun barrel to paint and some magnetising to be done!)

Stonehorn (Aracknarock Conversion)

I’ve used this list in quite a few practise games and really love it: decent shooting, great combat and character minimum! Its just how I like to play and can compete in every phase! I also don’t feel too dirty/filthy since the gutstar is pretty small (8 guts and only 2 characters) but if I combo charge with several units it can still take on deathstars pretty well!

The campaign has got off to a good start although I have fallen behind on the admin due to the afore mentioned illness and busy work! Will hopefully be able to resolve all the actions sometime this week and then submit my turn 2 actions soon!

On a gaming front I have played a lot of games on UB with Mike (wont go into details, suffice to say my UB dice a filth and Mikes are not!) and have played a few Falkirk Free for All practise games using the OnG. I’m really comfortable with my list (closed list below) having played 30-40 games with it (very similar to my Winter War list) so should be able to relax and have a good time at the event! Really looking forward to it!

There are some pics below of some practise games I played at Andy’s against Gary’s TK and Andy’s Brets. Against Gary we had some pretty big swings of luck, started off bad for me losing warmachines to misfires and failing a lot of charges but in the end it swung the luck favour in my direction and I netter an 18-2 win. Against Andy I had a good game with most things going to plan, it ended a 10-10 but only because the cowardly French man fled a charge with his knight bus turn 5 saving him from 20-0 defeat. To be honest it could have so easily gone wrong for Andy if I had planned my charges better (eg ordering them so I could force flee him off the board) but I learned a valuable lesson!

Also got a cheeky game vs Scott’s dirty Daemonic horde last night using my OnG. Game really went in my favour (barring terrible warmachine shooting, which I have come to expect!). My chariots and savage star were on fire, getting loads of long charges which led to the easy obliteration of the beasts of nurgle and plague drones. We called it at the end of turn 4 (I had to leave) but settled on a 15-5 win to me with the presumed survival of his Daemon Prince and nurgle block. All I lost was the 2 manglers (naturally) and my warmachines (his skull cannon was on sniper mode clearly!). All in all a very fun game!

Anyway off to Falkirk at the weekend, so wish me luck! I’m really looking forward to it (being my first two dayer!) and the ensuing banter! Game 1 im playing a grudge vs Stuart Murray and his OnG which is promising to be an epically daft game with plenty banter! See some of you there, come say hello if we have never met! Im going out for curry with everyone on the Saturday night so it promises to be a fun night!
