[Random Ramblings] Stillmania, Tau style

'Sup worthy interweb denizens, if you read the last post you'll know why I'm doing this.

For Tau, clocking in around 1162 points minus any upgrades the 1250 list is:

  • 1 Ethereal -HQ
  • 1 XV8 Commander -HQ
  • 2 XV8 bodyguards -HQ upgrade uni
  • 10 fire warriors -Troops
  • 1 XV88 broadside -HS
  • 14 kroot- Troops
  • 1 shaper -Troop upgrade character
  • 6 vespid - Fast attack
  • 8 XV15 stealth suits -Elite
  • 3 XV25 suits -Elite
  • 2 XV8 suits - Elite
  • 10 pathfinders - Fast attack
  • 1 devilfish - Transport
  • 1 hammerhead/skyray -HS
And the initial trim consists of:

  • 1 skyray -HS
  • 10 pathfinders +drones (new ones- I prefer the older metals)- Fast attack
  • 10 fire warriors - Troops
  • 10 kroot -Troops
Then there's

  • 8 gun drones
I'm umm-ing and ahh-ing about. I do love the models, but want to trim down the collection. Anything above in italics is something I'm considering trimming as that's still a fair whack of tau and not much trimmed- still, what is being trimmed is a decent sized force for someone. I probably will trim the normal XV8's as I love XV15 stealth suits. I know they aren't the versatile gunboat the XV8 is, but there's the commander and body guards. 

It's kinda hard deciding what gets the chop, but that's the thing though, right? So many things you're hesitant to get rid of as you know you have to cut, but really don't know where to do said cutting. Do I cut down unit sizes, or remove a unit altogether? Do I keep what I like aesthetically or keep what is a decent unit?

Possible trim options:
- Shaft the XV8s and the XV25s
-Downsize the pathfinder squad?
-Downsize the kroot/fire warriors?

I'll have to think on the basis of these, but might get rid of the second skyray turret (the box I got came with two for some reason plus the hammerhead parts). Nevertheless, the plastic mountain shall be trimmed.
