In one of my last posts I talked about some of the tactical decisions to consider when fielding light mechs in you lance: Link HERE.

Part of the discussion was that rarely you want to go light mech vs. light mech as even if you win, you will be damaged in the process and then be taken out or crippled on the next shot, and then once you are down a mech the numbers start working against you. Most of the time a light mech is there to run around and try and take missed shots from your other mechs.

That said, there are times a light mech needs to be hunted down and punished, and in that capacity the Hermes battlemech works well.

Sacrificing a bit of speed for a light mech, it carries a nice combination of ranged weapons with the autocannon/5 and the medium laser to catch up and target faster light mechs, while at the same time it supports a good amount of armor (17 center torso) to trade blows with the lighter mechs.

In this capacity I find it works well as a light mech hunter (or even light tanks) for when you need to engage that opposing light mech, but don’t want to break off you medium or similar mech to deal with it. In this capacity I would put it with the Firestarter mech- something for a specific battlefield role over a more generic light mech in use.
