For the past two months I have been working on a project very close to my heart. As some of you know, I am a fan of Flames of War (FOW), as well as sci-fi. So I have decided to work on a sci-fi supplement for FOW.
I won't go into detail about it now, but the first thing I had to do was design the themes of my first two opposing armies and find the models for them. In my quest to find appropriate sci-fi models at the 15mm scale I have stumbled upon some great minis which I have decided to write up reviews for. It also helps to fill in my 1 article a week schedule as well :) !
To begin this series of short article reviews, I am starting with the Nemesis Light Strike Vehicle from ClearHorizon Miniatures.
After seeing this mini of the above mentioned website,I knew this was the light recon vehicle I wanted for my Human Core force, so I ordered several of these miniatures.
The miniatures arrived in a sturdy box with standard packing, and they came in plastic bags with colour card labels. Personally, I am not very interested in packaging in the name of marketing, because that usually increases prices, especially when the product is not mass produced, but I would suggest putting the name of the miniature on the card.
As for the miniature, I was very impressed with the quality and standard off the cast. The model comes in five easy-to-assemble parts, and the pieces are all crisp and clean - no hassle in that department what-so-ever.
The futuristic design is sleek and practical, very suitable for a recon vehicle in the universe I have in mind. Details on the model are clear and seem 'functional', something I value in models. The turret can be magnetized, but the fit is so good, I do not see it very necessary, especially after painting.
As comparisons go, I do not have any other sci-fi vehicles at the moment to compare it with, but I do have some models. The trooper is from Oddzial Osmy's New Vistula Legion, and the super-heavy trooper is from Khurasan Miniatures (reviews will come as well).
The picture speaks for itself. The scale is spot on. I have read reviews criticizing Clear Horizon for the scale of the model for a two man vehicle, but on first-hand inspection, I respectfully disagree, but this is just my humble opinion.
Overall, I have to recommend this model to anyone wanting to buy a light recon vehicle for their 15mm armies. The price is a bit steep compared to other companies, but the quality and style of the product does make up for it to an extant. In any case I am very happy with my purchase.
Well that all folks. Farewell and good health to one and all!
