Hey all,

Well, something wonderful happened- I finally found a selection of paints that give a red that I'm quite pleased with. What makes me happier is that it's over a black undercoat :D

Truly, joyous occasions are to be had! Especially since it's a Monday. HUZZAH!

How this came about is a bit of a tangent of itself. I was painting some orcs w/ 2HW (20 divided into 2 lots) with white undercoat. Half are done including basing on plain static grass, the others are 80% done. Seeing the scheme I had for them, I wanted to branch out and do some coloured uniforms for other orcs.

Since the rescue joblot contains 15 similar orcs (2 HW) I gave those ones a spray undercoat in black then whipped out VMC Hull Red, which is excellent for coverage. I'll get round to painting chaos stuff eventually (re: once these orcs are done, I like to tangent) but the scheme for the blood angels appears thusly:

  • Undercoat Black
  • Apply VMC Hull Red to all areas, leaving deep recesses black
  • Apply a 1:1 or thereabouts mix of Mechrite red (if you have any) and VGC gory red over this, doing the whole leaving shadowy areas hull red
  • Apply blood red or equivalent (my pre-new pot citadel blood red is still doing fine)
  • Highlight with blazing orange or equivalent
  • WASH THAT FUKKER WITH VGC RED INK
Which should give a nice, bright and above all, solid red on a black undercoat. I'll get pics up of the orc in question who's sporting this attire sometime soon.

I'mma so happy :D
