Ever since I started my Sons of Horus project I thought that the theme of the army’s bases was quite important. It was supposed to be somehow neutral, yet evoking a desolated feeling. They should blend in a ruined imperial city just like in a wasteland. Also the main topic was Death. Not so very original of course, but if the cap fits, wear it. Due to their background I avoided remains of slaughtered Marines of other chapters as I can use them as both loyal and regular Sons of Horus then.

Due to the recent rebasing of my army the topic crossed my mind again and therefore it became the motto of today’s post. The new tactical Marine I finished yesterday has the remains of one of Davin’s / Sixty-Three Eight’s mutated people on his base.

The recently finished Son of Horus. The tactical Marine has the skull of a mutant from Davin on his base.

The re-basing of the Sons of Horus continues. All dramatis personae in power armour got a new 32mm base. The Dreadnought and the Davinite priest just got their old bases adjusted with some pigments. Here you can see how good the new bigger bases work next to an old small one. The priest now appears to be smaller and rightfully so.

Here is the new base next to some old ones. They illustrate the Death topic which mainly focusses on regular human remains. Besides the new hint to Davin I had one Ork skull included as a reference to Ullanor which marks an important point in the history of the Sons of Horus.

The last models on their old bases. 18 tactical Marines need to be rebased during the final step of the process.
