Maybe you can remember the Westfold board Flattervieh and me came up with a couple of weeks ago. I still like it pretty much but the problem is that it belongs to Flattervieh thus staying most of the time at his place. Since I would like to be able to offer a nice board aswell when guests are visiting me I was motivated enough to come up with something new again.
I really like the Citadel Realm of Battle board. Especially after Flattervieh and me tuned it a bit the last time. Yet I wanted to try something different now. The setting should be the woods around Amon Sul, the epic place of Boromir’s last fight and the climax of the movie “the fellowship of the ring”. A good idea as Parth Galen is close to both Rohan and Gondor thus giving good reasons to fight for it for a lot of our miniatures.
As this calls for a woodland setting I was not really convinced by the idea to use sand on the ground texture again. Also I wanted the board to be easily transported for the future Aleator tournaments to come at Flattervieh’s place. Two reasons again to use the Citadel board one might think. Fortunately I found another solution. I have to credit and thank two persons for the idea. First one being Stahly of our partner Blog Tale of Painters. Here I saw the idea for the first time and he gave me the necessary hints which stuff I should buy in a german hardware store. The other person is The Terrain Tutor who came up with the idea initially. Thanks a lot guys!
I took pictures of the building process but if you would like to try this on your own I really have to recommend the Terrain Tutor’s YouTube link posted above. Of course I had to come up with the first piece of terrain aswell. The iconic head was a no brainer to include as it is the place where Frodo and Boromir were arguing over the One Ring.

A man of Gondor examines the finished texture on the board. I really like it as it reminds me of the texture on the plain Citadel board tiles.

Another examination was due. At this point I was already quite happy with the result as the texture really looks organic like roots or something similar.

Of course there was the need to check it out again with a close up. After this there came two other layers of sprayed varnish to seal it (not pictured of course).

These pictures were taken in broad daylight and are a much better colour reference for the board than the WIP-pictures.
