Badab Bloggers

Surprise long time readers. We have a Badab Veterans update! This is the first BV article in a long, long time. If you don't know about the Badab Vets then click the link above and have a read. The following article was contributed by Alex and he got in contact with me last week about how helpful the Badab Vets page was for him and his group. So I thought I'd ask him to do an Armies on Parade for us, to show off his army.
Found this epic picture online.

2) What made you pick a Badab themed force?
When Forgeworld released the Sevrin Loth and Red Scorpion Honour Guard models I decided I wanted to start a Space Marine army. The models were breathtaking and I wanted to paint them. I prefer to do my own thing with my armies, rather than follow what GW has prescribed. But then came the release of Badab War Imperial Armour books. I bought them used for cheap and and took my time reading them and getting into the fluff.
There were two chapters that caught my attention- the Minotaurs and the Carcharodons. I did some more research on the internet and decided that I would finally do an army that has a pre-existing background and fluff rather than start up my own. Now which of the two chapters to choose?
I was initially drawn towards the Minotaurs. Moloc was a superb sculpt and I liked the idea of a chapter specifically designated to cripple other Space Marine chapters. But two of my existing armies had a main colour of gold and bronze seemed just too close. I started to get into the mystery of the Carcharodons. There is not much known about them and that gives me an opportunity to write their history. They do their thing and don't care what others think. They cause some terror and destruction, collect their paycheck and go home.
I'm a big fan of Terminators, regardless of them being competitive or not, and the Carcharodons are a Terminator heavy force. Plus Tyberos unlocks lightning claw Terminators as troops. Yes please! The army has been fun to assemble. They have a mixture of different suits of power armour represented by Forgeworld. I've also been able to do some conversions that wouldn't suit other chapters.
3 & 4) What is the current size and composition of the army? What restrictions have you self imposed etc...and what would you like to add?
I do not know what the point value is of everything that is assembled.  Here is what is assembled and in various stages of painting:
  • 4 Tactical Marine squads
  • 2 Assault Marine squads
  • 2 Devastator squads (I have five of each heavy weapon except grav cannons)
  • 6 Centurions that are magnetized and can be Devastator or Assault
  • 1 Honour Guard squad
  • 1 Sternguard squad
  • 1 Vanguard squad
  • 1 Terminator squad
  • 2 Assault Terminator squads
  • 2 Chaplains
  • 3 Librarians
  • 3 Captains
  • Tyberos
  • Siege Dreadnought
  • Ironclad Dreadnought
  • Venerable/Mortis Dreadnought
  • Land Raider Achilles
  • Deimos Rhino
  • 3 Vindicators
  • Caestus Assault Ram
Here is what needs to be assembled:
  • 2 Tactical Marine squads
  • 1 Terminator squad
  • 1 Assault Terminator squad
  • 2 Contemptor Dreadnoughts
  • 1 Chaplain
Wishlist:
  • 5 Drop Pods
  • 3 Rhinos
  • Land Raider Crusader
  • Spartan Assault tank
  • Stalker/Hunter
  • Leviathan Dreadnought
  • Storm Raven or Fire Raptor
The army is already a considerable size and I do not feel compelled to expand it further from that wishlist.  Easier said than do though right.
5) Any other thoughts or suggestions.
Thank you for the Badab Project. I visited your site a lot when I was deciding what army to start-up. It's a great resource and I know many others will benefit from it. I am currently organizing a local Badab War campaign. I have wanted to play the missions for a while and I am excited to see how it will progress. Thanks for your time.

So a big thank you to Alex for sharing with us. If you want to try your hand at this drop me an email john.silar@gmail.com, make sure to follow/add on google+ to make sure emails reach me and not end up in the Eye of Spam box. Please note for Armies on Parade I would like to stick to the Badab themed armies or Eldar.

Until next time.
