Some of the readers might remember this little fellow here. I painted the automata earlier this year and initially I was quite happy about the work, but then I stumbled upon the artworks of the Cyclotrathe Thallax and Castellax over and over again and decided: something has to be done about the outrageous lack of decals for the Forge World of Cyclotrathe.
No sooner said than done I started Illustrator and painting. This process took me with several long breaks more than half a year but I am pleased with the results. I had the decals printed in UV print at Druckeronkel’s web shop (big props to him!) and I am more than pleased with the results.
Here is a quick picture of what the decals looked like before I started reworking my Mechanicum:
The decision that these decals needed to be done was basically because of these two artworks from the Horus Heresy Books:
Looking closely at the shoulder plates of the Castellax one can see the arachnid symbol of the Forge World of Cyclotrathe (also to be found in the livery of House Atrax Knights, but this will be a topic in a few weeks).
Then I started painting the automata (again) but didn’t go for the “all-black” look but a little brighter alternative featuring a lot of brass, black and a red stripe as undercoat for the “serial number” of this particular Automata. Yes, all units with a Cybernetica Cortex in my Army will have their own serial number. Watch it later…
That’s it so far for my work for Cyclotrathe. Stay tune, there will be more.
