Got to say, this miniature was a lot of work but it was definitely worth it. It occupied most of my painting time for about a month, which is unusual for me.
I know that GW has been criticised for the pose of this model, but I think it's pretty great actually. The head and neck have some nice dynamism, and the wing pose means that the model is at least transportable....
Here's a shot of the rider. I spent less time on him than the dragon, simply because that's the real focus of this piece. Still, he looks quite impressive with his massive warhammer, riding into battle.
The wings are where the real time went. I broke out my Aztec airbrush, and sprayed them in successive thin coats, creating smith graduations between Khorne Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Fire Dragon Bright, and then Yriel Yellow. I then applied thinned Nuln Oil across the membranes. It was a lot of work, but I think that it was worth it.
I used the standard Stormcast recipe for the gold: Retributor Armour, then a wash of Reikland Fleshshade, then Auric Gold, Liberator Gold, and finally Stormhost Silver.
