Finally! After my clubmate Rekrom finished the last remaining tile for the first couple of missions we were able to sit down and give this game a try. No really, we waited with the first game until we had everything fixed for maximum tabletop goodness. I really have to praise Rekrom’s dedication towards this project. It was a blast playing on these marvelous tiles. Thanks mate, on the board they look even better than on the pictures. Also I would like to thank Kjeld for his help on the project. He painted some of the required cultists and came up with these cool vents you can see on the board. They have no relevance in the game but they really looked great next to Rekrom’s tiles.
So it was Kjeld, Elrond de Gravenesse, Flattervieh and me facing the darkness of Rekrom’s infested mine colony. The four of us brought one marine of our choice. You might remember my take on the Blood Claw. It was a very pleasant experience for me to enjoy gaming this way but with only one miniature in my bag. We sat down and started with mission one: Killstorm.
Well this was fun. Like really, really fun. I can’t stress out enough what a great time I had fighting the xenos infested denizens of Ghosar Quintus. Thanks a lot guys for the great time! The board and all the models on it were absolutely fabulous to play with.
The actual game rules aswell. The Space Marines feel like Space Marines from the novels. They are capable of butchering their foes yet you have to watch out that they don’t get outnumbered too bad or that they end up face to face with the Purestrain Genestealers or the Patriarch alone. The first mission was designed for the Marines to rule, but we tested two later missions aswell and here you’ll notice pretty quick that there are nasty things in the mines even a Space Marine has to watch out for.
As the first test was such fun we decided to continue and play the whole campaign even covering the first Kill Team Excis.
