How I Paint My Orks

If you’ve been following my Instagram you might have seen that I’ve been working on Orks for the past few weeks. I got a squad of gretchin painted up as well as some Killa Kans. I’ll be posting pictures of those soon enough but I wanted to start with how I paint my Orks.

My first true orks (gretchin don’t count!) is a squad of Nobz.

Ork Paint Scheme

Skin

  1. Basecoat in Waaagh! Flesh
  2. Wash Biel-tan Green
  3. Layer Warboss Green
  4. Highlight Skarsnik Green

Teeth

  1. Basecost in Zandri Dust
  2. Wash Agrax Earthshade
  3. Layer Ushabti Bone
  4. Highlight Screaming Skull

Leather straps & boots

  1. Base Mournfang brown
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Highlight with Skrag Brown

Red

  1. Base Mephiston Red
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Layer with Evil Sunz Scarlet
  4. Edge with Wild Rider Red

Red (Battle damage)

  1. Paint thin lines of Mephiston Red
  2. Highlight those lines with Stormhost Silver

Yellow

  1. Averland Sunset
  2. Wash Seraphim Sepia
  3. Yriel Yellow

Yellow (Battle damage)

  1. Mournfang brown
  2. Highlight those with Stormhost Silver

Black

  1. Base in Abaddon Black
  2. Layer with Skavenblight Dinge
  3. Highlight with Stormvermin Fur

Metal

  1. Base with Leadbelcher
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Highlight with Stormhost Silver

Base

  1. Base dirt areas with Mournfang brown
  2. Base metal areas with Leadbelcher
  3. Wash all areas with Agrax Earthshade
  4. Dry brush silver areas with Stormhost Silver (I used to use Rune Fang Steel)
  5. Dry brush brown areas with Zandri Dust

Squig

  1. Base any hair with Genestealer Purple
  2. Wash any hair with Druchii Violet

And that’s it. Relatively simple. And most of the highlights are the skin, the metal, and a bit of red. Not bad.
