As usual due to work and other pesky life-things, my hobby time is being severely cut into. One of my intentions was to enter a local contest called Army on a Plate; a fun parody of Armies on Parade where contestants enter scaled down displays (about the size of a dinner plate, as the name suggests). Thanks to the real world happening, it's only 10 or so days away. Rather than miss out, I thought it'd be fun to see if I can complete a display board in under 10 days.
My intention (whether it happens or not) is to create a post EVERY DAY for the next week and a bit. So let's get cracking...
DAY ONE
My idea was to have a renegade tank commander surveying the field. As I only had a small area to work with, I will only be able to have a handful of extra models to go with it. I recently bought some Cultist bikers, so perhaps a small scouting party being directed by the commander. I had my idea, now to bring it to life. The models are mostly done so all my attention can go onto the board.
First off, I needed a base. I wanted a light material, ideally already cut to size to save time (that and my woodwork leaves a lot to be desired). Some cork disks from a local department store were perfect. Approximately 6 inches in diameter they were within the size limit, but my plan to have a tank as the centrepiece means I have a very small area to add other things.
One disk acted as the base, whilst the other was cut in half to start building up the landscape. I want to either have a trench section, or at least a varied landscape. A toxic river in front of the tank will be a fun addition and a test of my river-making skills, which have only been used once before.
Next was to start blocking out the landscape. I had a leftover block of blue foam from a previous (award winning) Armies on Parade entry, so this was slicked up and placed on top of the cork to give more height. A bit of shaping later...
So that's it for now. I need to wait for the glue and wine bottle to do their job before I start carving this bad boy up. Stay tuned for another update!
