So it turns out that this little corner of the interwebz has now been live for 4 years. I'd like to say I'm surprised at this, that I would have never thought the blog would last this long and other various platitudes that make it seem like it's shocking in a way.
…but the truth is I'm not. No, that's not overconfidence, I've made a commitment to continue this Blog, and I truly love writing for it, sharing my thoughts and conversions, opinions and works-in-progress with all of you. If you truly love something, then there's really no reason to stop doing it now is there? This was a revelation I came to earlier this year, and it's a good one. Sure, I may not update as often as I wish I could, but I don't think I've ever let the blog drop to under 3 posts a month and I'm quite happy with that.
(read through for the birthday giveaway folks)
I will have to say that the one thing I was concerned about going into this 4th year was getting stale. Stale topics, stale figure work, stale writing…just in general getting stale in the relevance of the blog itself. The primary reason for this concern was that I wasn't playing, building or painting a lot of 40K, and that was truly what powered the blog for over 3 years. Then when they released 7th ed, I tossed in the towel, declaring the need for a break from my much-beloved universe and game. The concern grew once this happened.
Sure, I could continue to paint and build for topic fodder, but I'm a gamer who loves the hobby. Let's read that again: I'm a GAMER who loves the HOBBY. I love to play the game that I build and paint for, so if I'm not enjoying the game itself, it really kills the motivation to build and paint for the game. This is the primary reason I've never been able to finish painting a Warma-Hordes figure for a painting contest, I don't enjoy playing that particular game. Just not my cup of tea, you know? So what do I do now that I'm going to go dry on 40K content?
…turns out I didn't have to wait too long for an answer. See, I sort of dove head first into Infinity by Corvus Belli, as I'm sure many of you have already realized by my most frequent topics of late. Not only has this given me a renewed vigor for gaming, it's fed the topic engine for the blog, as well as truly challenged me in becoming a better painter.
So this past year has been a bit of a hobby roller coaster for good ol' Tim. So what better way to say thank you for sticking with me through it than to celebrate the blog's 4th birthday than a contest?!?!
…and if some of you skipped through all my ramblings above, that's okay. I would have been tempted to as well…
So what am I giving away? A big grab bag (box) of goodies! Check it out!
That's right, since I've diversified the blog, I'm making sure the birthday present to the lucky winner is diverse as well! We're looking at a starter box for Warmachine, and Dropzone Commander, a Crew Box for Malifaux, and the 2012 Games Day figure! Seriously folks, that's over $150 worth of fun!
...maybe I should rethink that...
NAH! So how do you win it? Here's the easy steps to enter yourself into the drawing:
1. Follow the blog. Already do that? Score! Don't yet? That's okay, just click "Follow" over on the right.
2. Comment below. Doesn't really matter what you say, but see we bloggers love our comments, and even if I can't reply to them all, I read every one of them. It means that folks actually care about what we're writing. I know I've said that before, but it's still very much the case.
That's it! I'll give it until Midnight on Friday, June 5th for the entries. Then I'll put all the names in a hat and let my son pick the winner!
Here's to an amazing 5th year folks. Just wait til you see what I have in store for you then!
