Bit of a weird post from me. I'm not normally one to be affected by others but it seems I have been. At the moment there is some negativity out there and I fear it's having an affect on me. It's making me not want to play 40k. Anytime I speak to local gamers or just watch games being played, it seems/feels like people aren't having fun. Groups local to me are banning units or weapons left right and centre. With more time spent working out what can be played, then actually playing. It also seems to be mainly the Space Marine players complaining too. Some local bans include no D-Weapons or D str weapons, no Lords of War with Gargantuan (ie. No wraithknights, wraithguard, wraithfighters), no formations, no allies, no unbound, no superheavies, no maelstrom missions and this is just the beginning. There is other gamers who need to spend half a hour discussing terrain and how each bit has to do something different, or how you can only enter the ruin through the door section. A game that should only take 3-4 hours is getting dragged out to 6. This I am finding mentally draining and unenjoyable. It also makes it hard to just turn up and play.
So time for a change up! No more buying of 40k, I have enough figures to get a 2500+ point army of Eldar. So there will be still be Eldar updates (mostly painting as I still enjoy that) and if someone nice wants a game and asks I will play. But I'm just not feeling it anymore. So what does that mean for here? Well it means I'm looking at other game systems. Games coming onto my radar or holding my interest include Judge Dredd and Kings of War.
Judge Dredd: Dredd solves all the above issues I'm having with 40k. It's quick and simple, there is some rpg elements to it, as the gangs progress and I love Dredd. But any blog posts about this game will be found on my other blog Sector 102 (http://judgesilarsector102.blogspot.co.uk/). So head over and have a peak.
Whilst on this blog there will now be an increase of Kings of War. Why KoW you ask? Well it is how I like to see ranked combat, it's more about your units then your heroes. Heroes are there to give you a boost not win you the battle. I'm currently eyeing up Elves and Herd. The vision, if I can find the figures is, Sea Elves with Fishmen and Sea Monsters like Krakens/Crabs/Walrus'. The game seems simple enough and it will just be me and a good friend playing against each other so we can do a slow build and make it more about having fun than winning at all cost.
Then finally boardgames. I want to show off the other games we play. So there is still plenty happening around here. But it's time for change and removing some of the local negativity and players from my free time.
Thank you for reading I promise plenty of blogging. How is your local scene? Have you felt the need to change up your gaming? Have I just hit a weird rut? Drop me a comment and let me know.
