Of course this is not supposed to be Fangorn, yet the roots of Parth Galen are long aswell. I wanted to come up with a tree for my WIP-Parth-Galen-board next. As this is supposed to be a light woods area I thought it would be a good idea to put each tree on an own base. The bases could later on in the actual game be considered as difficult terrain.
Regarding the tutorial for this tree I can only give the advice to check out TheTerrainTutor on YouTube again. That’s all you need and I just added some flock to the lichen as a last step. I am quite happy with the result as this was my first real try to make a tree on my own (if you don’t count this crippled tree here). I ended up with quite a big tree. Of course it is nowhere out of scale and there might even be bigger trees especially in a not so dense light woods area. But I think the next trees will be a bit smaller nevertheless. I have to admit that the making of the tree really took some time and it seems like the first match on the board will take some more time.
It all started with a base and wire.
Some putty later the tree got its final shape. Also the spackle completed the base.
I added some more branches, finished the base and used the last remains of beige lichen I had left. I thought I could adjust its colour later on.
My new lichen already got the green colour I wanted to have in the end.
The tree and the base are painted here already. I had to apply green paint to the lichen which I can’t recommend. Painting that stuff is way to much trouble.
Here comes the finished tree. I added some flock to the lichen to achieve a more voluminous look.
I also added some green to the base.
The size reference – quite a strong tree.
That’s all I have so far. I guess I’ll have to speed things up a bit to get enough terrain for my 48″ x 48″ board.
