If you’ve followed the last couple of posts regarding Warhammer you might have noticed that some of the Aleatores are diving into the world of Warhammer skirmish recently. It’s a homebrewed setting mostly consisting of Mordheim, Regiments of Renown, Heralds of Ruin and Kill Team rules. Our member Elrond is responsible for this very entertaining mix which we playtested now for the first time. As this playtest resulted in quite a few changes to our rule setting I am not going to explain the rules we used in detail (if you have any questions feel free to ask anyway). So what we have here now is more likely a visual teaser for the future matches to come.
The name of the post derives from the setting we’ve placed the skirmish game into. The wild and untamed regions of the Border Princes just seem like an appropriate place for lose Warbands running into each other. As a lot of terrain is always a good idea for skirmish battles we are performing our matches in a ruined human city which happens to look very similar to an imperial city which was destroyed some hundred years ago.
Elrond’s Warband – Rikit Yellowtooth and the Skaven of Clan Mors.
My own Warband – the Dwarven noble Drangi and his Stonehammer clansmen hailing from the city Zhufbar.
I was really glad to be able to set up my board again. It’s been more than two years since I played on it the last time.
The Skaven of Clan Mors were ready for combat.
While the Gutter Runner sneaked around an abandoned blacksmith’s shop.
The Dwarves of the Stonehammer Clan were out on the prowl aswell.
The two miners supported them … was it really a surprise that the Dwarves were lingering around the destroyed tavern?
The Skaven’s push forward came pretty fast.
While the Jezzail Team opened fire on the Dwarves. Albeit with no success.
The Clansmen saw what was coming for them and prepared themselves.
While the miners went around a corner…
…they saw a black cloaked Skaven running through the streets. But then …
… three Skaven ambushed them out of nowhere. Suddenly the two Dwarves were outnumbered.
Rikit Yellowtooth ordered his Skaven to attack the rest of the Dwarves aswell.
The fighting was on!
Unfortunately for the Skaven their attack was over pretty fast. They could not pierce through the stubborn hold line of the Clansmen. Those who did not die under the axes fled in panic.
The main reason for the Dwarves’ success were not their axes but their crossbows. These two lads’ aiming was much better than the aiming of the Jezzail team. By shooting down the Skaven’s standard bearer they broke the rat men’s moral very fast.
The Dwarves’ way to victory could not be stopped by the Skaven. Yet Rikit would not let the beard-things win this day without letting them pay a price in blood.
First he killed one of the regular Men of Clan Stonehammer, then he impaled the musician with his halberd. The rest of Drangi’s men could not catch the chieftain of the Skaven after his murder of two of their brethren. So even if the victory was theirs and the streets were dripping of Rat Men blood they had a new grudge that was not satisfied yet.
As the first match was such fun we decided to continue with another one immediately. I created an Orc and Goblin warband around my Warhammer Quest models. In situations such as this it’s very convenient to have a huge stock of miniatures at home.
The second match was probably even more fun than the first one. I didn’t bother to document every step, sorry.
It was quite interesting to have cavalry on the board this time and here on this picture you are about to witness the most awesome happening of the evening. The Gutter Runner jumped down from the house – survived – and cut down one of the Goblins.
First of all I would like to thank Elrond for the two great matches and his flexibility as this day’s time schedule got heavily messed up by me. Later on we agreed on certain updates for the rules over some Ale and I am sure the Skaven will be much more dangerous in the games to come. We are already aiming for another event of Skirmish battles in the world of Warhammer. Maybe we’ll have more Aleatores with us the next time. Time for some new Warbands from me!
